| throwing up? Jessie has thrown up a few times the last week. I did change her kibble from royal canin calm to royal canin yorkie. I figure it was the same so no big change. I have also notice she chews nothing! The kibble is coming back whole..Its only a few times and she seems fine..no constipation or runs..happy full of energy...should I go back to royal canin calm and make sure she is chewing, but how? I tried giving her one kibble at a time and she hoovered them then they came back up whole. She literally eats her food in 20 seconds..She burps after every meal..when she threw up today I saw bits of carrots from last night (unchewed although they were little strips) and whole bits of chicken ( I gave her a special treat last night of boiled chicken shredded carrot and kibble) the kibble is literally expanding in her stomach..they were huge.. she is moving around more now that shes off total restriction so she gets to walk around some) so shes starving...she gets 1/4 cup twice an day with a little something, chicken or cottage cheese.. |

| Oh no, poor Jessie!! I sometimes have the same problem with Peanut- when I give him anything yummy or treats he will just swallow whatever it is whole, no matter the size! He has almost choked because of it- so I just make sure I give him small bites. However he is really good with crunching his kibble. How big is her RC? I’m not sure what you can do to make her crunch her food- I wonder if you could put it in water to soften it up? Or maybe crunch the food down to make crumbs? I know they have these special bowls to put their kibble in, it makes them eat slower… but I don’t know if that will help her chew..

| the kibble dry is not that big. I think my daughter soaked it to much it was pretty big when it came back up! I dont know if her excitement of being out of the crate is just getting her riled up or its a stomach issue..I just hand fed her tiny bits of chicken and crushed kibble in a little homemade broth. We will see how it goes...she seems fine...poop is normal...please no more issues...shes finally getting out of the crate!! I think she just eats way too fast and it sits whole in her stomach. She used to take about 2-3 minutes but lately its 20-30 seconds...i dont even think she breathes... |

| Well they do sell these bowls, it is suppose to slow them down. It sounds like they might help her. Maybe when you get her out of the crate you can let her run amuck- then once she is calmed down you can feed her..?? Slow ''Em Down 4 1/2-Cup Bowl - Bed Bath & Beyond

| I wonder of slowing her would do any good if she just Hoovers every bite? Don't think slowing the access to the food would make her chew. I think wetting the food in advance is a good idea, if for no other reason than to make it more digestable. How do you make a dog chew? Heck, how do you make a person chew? You'd be amazed at how many people come to the ER with a HUGE unchewed piece of meat stuck that has to be retrieved with a scope...and they understand english..."chew your food..."

| Jessie Poor baby, sorry she is having this problem. I know my boy does not chew and I found by crushing food or feeding very small kibble, he digested it better. Also what happened if you feed canned! It worries me that he is throwing up last night's undigested food. Could she have a motility problem and the food is not moving through the system, it sits in the stomach. Also is she lacking some digestive enzymes so the food does not get processed properly? I have found that the special bowls are little help for kibble, but it does slow down canned food. Perhaps try the old food to see if she is ok, could be something in the new food she cannot digest? Perhaps the vet can offer some suggestions? |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | My Roxie regurgitates her food hours after eating. It's different then throwing up as she doesn't make that noise before hand it just comes up. It also hasn't been digested. The vet is treating her for reflux. She didn't get any improvement from Pepcid so she switched her to Priolisoc. This seems to be helping. She also eats her food in seconds. I am feeding her canned mixed with kibble. I hope you can find out what's causing it.

| Dogs don't chew their food the way people do. It isn't necessary because their system is different and digests it differen. So don't worry about the food not being chewed - that is normal. It could possibly be reflux as mentioned. If she continues to do this beyond this point, I would have a vet give her something for the reflux. Is her food bowl UP off the floor? If it is on the floor, then raise it because this leads to reflux in dogs. You might want to add a probiotic, also...just in case she is having a motility issue. But, for sure go talk to the vet if she continues throwing up and make sure she is getting extra fluid/water/pedialyte on those days.

| Hmm, my vet told me that they don't have to chew like we do. Said that our system needs our teeth to break down food to help it get the nutrients out and to digest it, but that a dog's system doesn't require that. I'm not saying that he said "dogs don't have to chew"..just that they don't have to chew like we do (you know how people are supposed to chew "x amount" of times before swallowing..). I know that in all my days of having a dog, whenever any of them threw up, their kibble was almost always whole. You could look at that 2 ways, I guess. lol 1) they don't chew well so that is when they throw up or 2) they never chew well and this shows on the rare occasion they throw up. Anyway, that's what my vet told me years ago with another dog I had. So, I've always believed that to be the case. He could've been wrong...?

| Well, whatever my vet meant, I'm sure he would still say that it's "best" if they chew. hehe I do know that Mandie chews at least once because at 1 oclock in the morning, while I'm asleep, I'll all of the sudden hear, "crunch, crunch.." drives me bonkers! lol But with Jesse, I am wondering if she might have that reflux problem.
