| Hi, Welcome to Yorkie Talk. I use coconut oil now. I was using Grizzly Salmon oil but it seemed to not agree with one of my Yorkies plus they smelled a little fishy. I switched to coconut oil and they both seem to like it and it agrees with them. I think either one is a good choice but each dog is different.

| ^ I have used both in the past but would go with the salmon oil if I had to pick one to supplement the diet with. I still like having the coconut oil for using topically or a toothpaste...it is good stuff for both pets and people |

| I use primarily fish oil, but not salmon. If you use coconut oil, I recommend either CocoTherapy or Nutiva brands. Make sure it is a really good organic, preservative free brand. I tried a less expensive one and it was not as effective.

| I can't speak for salmon oil as I have never used it. I have read good things about it, but my Jada has tummy issues with fish based kibble, so I have always steared clear of it. I do use coconut oil as a supplement and the Nutiva brand is what I use.

| Where do you buy the Nutiva coconut oil? Do you mix it with food or how do you give it to them?

YT 2000 Club Member | I found mine at a health food store. They love the taste and I just put it on top of the morning food. If you want, they could eat it right off the spoon. I give 1/4 tsp to Teeka as she weights 3 1/2 pounds. I think, it is 1/2 tsp per 5lbs.

| Be careful with how much you give at first. I gave 1/64 divided into two meals breakfast and dinner on Monday and she's still sick. Diarrhea the next day and now just vomiting. I think maybe yeast die off but not sure. She has a lot of tummy issues and every dog reacts differently. I've heard so many great things so I thought I would try it on her. Just never heard any bad experiences so I thought I would share. I know it was the coconut oil that caused upset belly since nothing else was different that day. I have her the organic coconut oil. |

YT 2000 Club Member | Sorry, I forgot to say, that I started out with a very small amount to make sure there was no tummy upset!
