| Dexter is so hungry Our Dexter is 2 yrs old and weighs in at 10.5 lbs. We give a 3/4 cup total food 3 times a day. He is always scratching at his dish for more. This just started within the last 40 days. He was at the vet a week ago for heat worm test and is up to date on his shots. maybe it's normal I don't know? |

| Is he skinny? Or very active? He may need more to eat... or adding fiber to his diet may help him feel full...

| Interesting! We have the same thing going on here with our 18 month old 10.5lb boy. The 3/4 cup (spread out in several feedings per day) isn't doing it for him. I've started giving him just a bit more. He's very active and definitely not overweight. I figure it's because of how active he is. |

| This is a very good questions because if its higher protein food and high quality food it should fill him up better then one with less protein and lower quality.

| My Shelby used to eat the same amount all the time and then when we moved into our house in June, he started acting like he had a tape worm. He kept eating and then begging for more. AND, he started getting bulkier - which I thought was fat because he's eating more. Then, I realized, our new house has a huge backyard where he (for the first time in his life) gets to run full force a LOT multiple times a day. Light bulb! He was burning a ton more energy AND gaining muscle (not fat) so of course he needed more calories and was hungry. I say all of this because it was asked above about how active Dexter is. If he is very active, then he really probably is hungry and needs more food intake

| My Petey was exactly the same since I got him (5yrs ago) always hungry, he's 10 now and the Vet and I finally discovered why! he has IBS, (he'd be on a real good food for a month or 3 then start getting diarrhea, but had an underlying worm problem. He was bloating up and he looked like he was getting fat! I mean real Fat!, he really started to act starving hungry then the mega diarrhea started again ( 4 or 5 a day) to the point of him lossing a lot of weight, he then had a ton of tests and was found he had a stomach bug (the long spaghetti worms) they were barely visible, we couldn't see them with the naked eye. The vet put him on antibiotics for 1 wk, didn't help, so he was given 2 more weeks, after the 2 weeks were up he still had diarrhea, so back to the vet, turns out he has IBS, so I've changed his food- to a LID Rabbit and Sweet Potato, and its been about 1 wk now and we're finally seeing normal poops and he's not starving anymore and his tummy isn't bolated! |

| If he's filled out and not skin and bones, is active and clear-eyed with no symptoms, he may just be bored. I was having a lot of trouble with my hip and couldn't interact a lot with Tibbe and he started scratching for more food out of boredom. Before I knew it, my little furkid had porked out a bit. I had to stop his extra portion and increase his mental and physical challenges, he lost the weight and stopped the bowl scratching. You might try adding a bit to each feeding and if he doesn't gain weight, then it's probably safe to conclude the little guy was hungry. But if he gains extra weight he doesn't need, it could have been boredom.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Just to be sure...are there any other random/odd symptoms or behaviors? Like, excessive drinking and peeing, a pot belly, loss of fur, skin infections...nothing like that right?
