| Mocha doesn't eat when I feed her I used to feed my puppy Mocha 3x a day based on the suggested size of her food bag. I would feed her in the AM, Noon, and then Dinner time. When I put her food in her bowl she would eat it at the exact moment. I started noticing a few months ago that she doesn't like to eat when I put her food in the bowl. So I cut back on the noon schedule and fed her the same but divided the food up 2x a day, AM and PM. She still didn't seem to want to eat at that exact moment. Now a few months later she just had her first heat, and still eats pretty funny. I recently switched her food because I thought maybe she was bored or eating the same, but no still very strange when I feed her. For example, I gave her AM food at 10 AM today, and now at 2:40PM she still hasn't touched it. She probably won't eat it until about 4PM. I will then feel bad that she hasn't ate enough, and will feed her the PM food before I go to bed. She probably won't touch that food until tomorrow afternoon. My fiance says that she isn't hungry, and when she is thats when she eats. Maybe I should cut back on how much food I am giving her? At her weight the bag recommends 3/4 to 1 cup of food, and I give her the 1 cup because that was how much she used to eat of the dog food before she became "picky". Any ideas? It makes me sad to think I could be starving her and she won't be able to tell me. Any tips, ideas, suggestions? |

| From what I am learning finicky eater and Yorkie go hand in hand. I have read that the amount stated on the pet food bags usually is more than what your dog actually needs. Maybe get some samples of different foods and see if she likes the new food better. I try out the new kibble by using them as treats. Then if Buster likes it I would give it for his meals. He then thinks he has tricked me into giving him treats for dinner. I do know that Yorkies should eat on a regular basis so that their blood sugar levels do get too low. You might want to have Nutrical or Nutristat or Karo Syrup on hand in case of Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) I feed closer to 1/2 - 2/3 cups a day. I will be interested to hear the amount other feed.

| Mine was free fed when I got her. I didnt want that so I started feeding 2x a day with some snacks in the middle of the day. I found tht my girl, as probably most dogs is driven to eat by scent. If I just put her dry kibble down she wouldnt touch it either (I smelled it, cant say I blame her) So I started boiling a bone in chicken breast once a week, cooling it, skimming off the fat and storing it in ice cube trays. I shred the chicken and put in a bag for treats or put on top of her food occasionally. Anyway, I melt the cube over her food *( i mix 2/3 oz of water in as she has developed an aversion to drinking water out of a bowl) All she has to do is smell that broth and she inhales it! I dont know how big our yorkie is but at 6 lbs mine eats half a cup a day, 1/4 morning 1/4 night. A cup is alot.. |

| Thanks everyone for your replies. She's too funny. If she won't feed from the bowl she will feed from my hand, or if I put the bowl in another place. |

| Camrey NEVER eats her food as soon as I put the bowl down. She is not a morning doggie. She wakes up with us in the morning at 6:30AM. When my daughter leaves for school at 7:15, Camrey hops in her bed & goes right back to sleep until 9:30AM. Doesn't usually eat until around 10:00-10:15AM. I feed her again at 3:00PM & her last feeding at 8:00PM. Her first & last feeding is 1/4 cup, the middle feeding is 1/8 cup. Lately I notice food is an afterthought for her. She can care less about the food. She'll eat half of the morning food & not eat any of the afternoon, but then eats at night. Her mood & behavior have not changed. After reading kimp5's post, I am starting to think may be overfeeding her. She is 6lbs. I think I am going to try feeding her 2X a day, 1/4 cup each feeding.
