| Recalled Dog Treats: Homemade Dog Treat Questions & Etc I've gotten an email about the numerous of dog treats they recalled recently and then another one today. I don't know what is going on, but it's time to make my own. I had to go to the Vet's office for some issues earlier and questioned her about homemade dog treats, and she gave me copy of recipes. I thought it was treat until I got my glasses on. I don't plan to cook homemade dog food for him (but maybe he would eat better if I did). There are certain ingredients that a dog needs to have in their diet she told me. Can anyone tell me what exactly these are and where you purchase them~? Does a homemade rice with veggies need to have these ingredients or homemade dog bones/treats~? The ingredients are: potassium chloride dicalcium phosphate calcium carbonate Most of these recipes calls for 1 and most call for all of these ingredients. I didn't think of asking her when I was there cause I don't plan to make the homemade dog food since I don't eat meat (I'm vegetarian). Also, why vegetable oil~? Can't you use oil oil or grape-seed oil~? |

| I home cook and make my own treats. I used Petdiets.com for my recipes from Dr. Remillard. I use BalanceIt as a supplement as she recommends. I use corn oil instead of veg oil. I have also used canola oil. I have 3 different home cook meal recipes I use. As far as treats, I have made treats from my pups can prescription dog food, dehydrated veggies, chicken jerky, and some dog cookies. Here is the recipe I was given: 2 cups whole wheat flour 1 cup rolled oats 2 eggs 3-4 tbs water 1/2 c dry milk 1 c peanut butter Can add 1tbs parsley flakes Mix dry ingredient, combine egg, PB, and water. Add to dry. Roll or shape into cookies. Bake 30 min at 350 on greased cookie sheet. I have never added the ingredients you listed.

| I'm not sure? If they are safe for dogs then you could try and see if they turn out. Maybe someone else will know??

| I have used this recipe for years. One box of old-fashioned oatmeal ground up in blender or food processor, and one can of pure pumpkin. Put both in a bowl and mix. Batter will be stiff. I have added fresh bananas, minced carrots, blueberries, and boiled organic ground lamb to the base. Regarding the lamb, it is boiled until done, and rinsed twice to remove a lot of the grease. Pat to dry. I add about 1/2 cup and mix. (Do not mix this a your blender!) roll out and flatten and use cookies cutters to make cute shapes. Because the mixture is so stiff, it only takes about an hour to bake (330) then leave in off oven for another 30 minutes or so. Store the extra in the freezer, then keep about a weeks worth in the fridge.
