how many mini carrots a day?

My girl is an eater..shes only 5.8 lbs but will easily eat 1/4 cup of royal canin calm twice a day..She inhales it! Doesnt even chew! I sprinkle with parmesean cheese (thanks to another poster) or add some boiled chicken. I do give her some blue buffalo bits during the day for good pottying. She is on a restricted movement due to leg surgery so im afraid of over feeding her. Shes always hungry! She loves carrots so I have given her two mini carrots throughout the day shredded to long pieces to chew. We play what hand is it in to keep her occupied. She just seems so hungry. I also wrap her medicine in small pieces of cheese. Can i give her more than two a day? Shes very regular 1/2 times a day and pees plenty. I just would rather give her carrots than stuff a kong with junk..(which even frozen she can get through in 10 minutes....

I don't know how many they are supposed to have, but Huey has eaten as many as 6 baby carrots at one time. He loves them. Be aware, though, poop will turn orange!

is it ok to give them carrots and cheese if they are having diarreheaand blood. I have had him to the vet 3 times since Jan with this. Punkin eats the En Vet diatary food now because of his tummy but acts as though he is staving for something tastey

This is true! ZoE LOVES carrots! She'll will always choose a carrot over a dog treat. She gets eats anywhere from 2-5 baby carrots a day, depending on what other food & treats she gets that day.

If your little one is having diarrhea and blood, I would be looking for another vet... there is something wrong as no dog should have diarrhea and blood. I would get that issue resolved first (whether it be diet related or something else) before I would start adding other foods to his/her diet.

I saw on another post today - if you are feeding a wet food, you can "bake" some in the oven to make them hard and make little crunchy treats for your little one so there is some variation in texture. But I would be most concerned with the diarrhea. If the new food he is on now is working for his tummy, I wouldn't chance messing with anything. Good luck.

If I give Kayla more than one baby carrot she will have loose stools. I have to be very careful with her diet. We have also had the blood issue and its scary. I have her on Royal Cannine for special diets and digestive issues. Seems to be agreeing with her. We just don't feed to many snacks to ours anymore and espically the ones at Petsmart etc. The carrots are good but I would limit it. Kayla likes apple too. Thats a good snack for them. Just peel and cut up in small bites and ours just gooble them.

Our 3 LOVE baby carrots better than anything. One time my dd boyfriend came over and he wanted to make friends with the dogs so she handed him the bag of baby carrots. Well, next thing you know he had fed them THE WHOLE BAG!!!! I did not discover this until the next day when I went looking for the bag. I saw no ill effects for any of them but I'm sure their poop was Tennessee Volunteer Orange!

I wouldn't feed the baby carrots. They are treated with chlorine.

They are a full sized carrot with rotten spots that they shave down and peel and chlorine dip. A full sized organic carrot cut into pieces is my choice.

Our Vet says- green beans - both of mine love them, I just open a can & keep them in a container in the fridge. My Macy is on Hill's Science Diet I/D Prescription formula forever & only treats she can have are green beans

I agree with the green beans.

Keep in mind that carrots are a natural sugar, so you don't want to go overboard with them. They can actually fuel hunger.

I would also be careful with how much cheese you are feeding each day. Pacreatitis is a concern, although there is not a direct link with fatty foods, it can be a contributing factor.

Treats/food enticements should never make up up more than 10 - 20% of your pup's diet. Otherwise you risk upsetting the nutritional balance of vitamins that a dog requires to maintain healthy kidneys and liver.

Keep in mind that giving in to demands for food/treats will increase this behavior. Try redirecting her attention to something else.

I cut regular size carrots into tiny pieces as well. I don't feed too much, as like others mention, orange poop, sometimes with carrots still in pieces. That means it's not being digested so well, so I limit the carrot consumption. Anyway, I'm growing my own baby carrots for now so hopefully I can give it to my pup

There's a difference between "baby-cut carrots" and "baby carrots". I buy organic baby carrots....they are actually grown as small carrots..they have skins & green tops, just like the big variety.
