Donating YT 3000 Club Member | Pfizer So my vet gave me the phone number to call them about the vaccines. The customer service rep ga e me the scripted jargon. So I am waiting for her supervisor, who is a vet, to call me back.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Which vaccines? I'd be interested in the subject, especially if you're going to be getting some good info about vax.

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | My vet uses Pfizer vaccines. I was questioning him about the size of the vaccines. You are giving a puppy that is 2 pounds the same size as a Irish wolfhound that is 150 pounds. The first customer rep told me that the amount used is what it takes to stimulate the a system. I asked to speak to someone that can answer the questions she couldn't. Still waiting for a call

| Do you really expect to get unbiased information from the people that are making money selling vaccines? My vet said the vaccines are the same amount it takes to vaccinate a horse.

| I'm still wondering if it is really advisable! However, here is what I heard about pfizer. There are numerous concerted efforts out there to keep individuals off narcotics. That extends to pharmaceuticals also, as some companies want to keep people off generic narcotics. The largest prescription companies, alias “Big Pharma” are issuing narcotic coupons to keep people using brand drugs that have gone off-patent. |

| Actually, dogs and cats get 1 ml of the vaccine, and larger animals get 2 ml, so although it's the same vaccine, the larger animals get twice as much. Personally, I trust my vet... |

| I personally would not trust the company that sells the vaccines because its there job to sell the vaccines and make the money so more then likely they are going to tell you what sounds good. Trusting your vet is very important.

| Here's the info for Defensor 3 rabies vaccine (Pfizer) from drugs.com (Defensor 3 Veterinary Information from Drugs.com). This is just the dosing information. There is also safety information at the same link: Directions Dogs and Cats: General Directions: Shake well. Aseptically administer 1 mL subcutaneously. Dogs may be vaccinated intramuscularly or subcutaneously. Primary Vaccination: Administer a single 1-mL dose at 3 months of age or older to healthy dogs and cats. A repeat dose should be administered 1 year later. Revaccination: Subsequent revaccination every 3 years with a single dose is recommended. Cattle and Sheep: General Directions: Shake well. Aseptically administer 2-mL intramuscularly. Primary Vaccination: Administer a single 2-mL dose at 3 months of age or older to healthy cattle and sheep. A repeat dose should be administered 1 year later. Revaccination: Annual revaccination with a single dose is recommended. |

| When I worked for a vet, all dogs regardless of size got the 1cc dose....period. I see Pfizer still does this....1cc to all dogs and cats. (Cattle get 2cc..... ) |

| Ahhhh, I thought you were talking about a large animal like a cow or horse compared to a dog. Although some Great Danes seem almost as big as a cow . I'll try to dig a little into the veterinary literature, and if I find something about different dosing for different dog sizes, I'll post the info... |
