| Clavamox--anyone used this before?? I need to hear from people who have used this antibiotic on TOY yorkies..weighing 5 lbs or under. Deucy had his teeth cleaned yesterday in KC. After 5 hours driving time, 9 hours waiting in Vet's office for him and 318.00 later, his teeth are CLEAN...very little bleeding and NO extractions. Of course they put him under for this each time and I did a lot of praying before, during and after his surgery. He does have the beginning of an ear infection and the Vet gave me cleaning product to use. BUT...he always gets these little black spots on his underbelly by his legs..he licks and licks them. First they are reddish, then turn black and eventually flake off. This has been going on for years..he's 7 now. It happens when he eats something different...this time his normal Zukes treats do NOT have the same ingredients...they started adding spices like tumeric and sage. I called the company and asked for the regular ones he's always eaten and they don't even make them anymore..they add all of these spices. I KNOW that is what is causes these numerous black spots on his underbelly. Now...has ANYONE actually used the med, Clavamox??? I need to hear from those people only. I will not give Deucy ANYTHING until I've heard how other toy yorkies weighing 5lbs or under have done on this med. Please share ONLY if you have used this. Thank you and I'll be waiting for replies.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Clavamox is an antibiotic usually used on toy breeds, I had a pup about 13 weeks, 3 pounds that was in clavamox for 5 days. if I am not mistaken the dose was 62.5 mg, tablet cut in half twice a day. it worked fine for his ear infection. hugs, Last edited by carmen in nj; 12-06-2012 at 06:51 AM. |

| I do know my Luci who is under 3 pounds, she can't take this as it makes her very sick and she throws up. So with her we have to use Clindamycin which works better for her. BUT my other two Yorkies have no problem with Clavamox.

| My yorkie is six pounds, but has been in the five pound range before. The worst this drug has ever done to her is given darker and possibly loose stool. Very normal for antibiotics... All Clavamox is is amoxicillin plus another ingredient that makes it more available to the dog. There is no reason not to give this drug. The vet thinks it is necessar. And as far as antibiotics go, this is one of the most popular. There is potential for side effects like with any other drug, but the benefits outweigh the risks if infection is a concern.

| I used Clavamox many times for infections (including a skin infection) on my three little angels. Ashey was almost seventeen when she passed away, and she was four pounds. Gracie was smaller than Ashley, and she had no problems tolerating it. My vet gave my dogs Clavamox after each dental as a preventative. They took the 62.5 mg tablets or the liquid form.

| Stella & Chewy Question I understand that I could do a search here, but will ask anyway. Does anyone have experience with this food? I see it is raw and that creeps me out. A pet sitter I was considering says she uses it and all the dogs love it. My dog is eating Blue Buffalo Chicken/rice kibble now. How would he take to changing to S & C if he were fed that? Any advice would be most appreciated. Thank you. Sorry wrong room!!!! Tried to edit and cancel but it did not happen. Last edited by dottiesyrky; 12-08-2012 at 04:33 PM. Reason: wrong room |
