| Raw hide pieces Thursday Bitsy started running around pawing at her mouth. She was gagging and choking and she looked frantic. I grabbed her and went straight to the vet who is only 3 minutes away. Bitsy had a piece of rawhide in her throat. The vet couldn't grab it and while she was trying Bitsy swallowed it. Poor baby she was so upset she was grinding her teeth. It was very scary. Anyway the vet gave me a lecture about raw hides and told me to watch her poop for 2 or 3 days to make sure she did poop and the rawhide hadn't caused a blockage. Well she has been pooping so thank God she's ok but although she and Scooter love rawhides.................no more rawhides.

| I'm so sorry that sounds terrible. Raw hides really are terrible. I would try bully sticks but make sure they are make in the US.

| What brands of bullys are made in the US? All I can find in my local feed store are all either from china, brazil or argentina. And they all smell to high heaven! Please remember also when the bullys get down to about an inch or two, throw those away, as even though they can be digested, they can still choke on one that small.

Yet another thing I don't understand (just like the USDA thing and puppy mills). I mean, if vets know they are choking hazards and blockage hazards, why are they even allowed to be sold? again..grrrr

I'm still suspicious of any bullys that say odor free. I've bought a few and OMG were they nasty! I used to buy the Merricks wishbones and flossies, but I don't buy Merricks products anymore. Now we are strictly Himalayan chews.

| Bestbullysticks has ones made in America but I think you have to look for them specifically. Here are the ones from the USA. Dog Supplies USA - Made In The USA Best Bully Sticks I've only ever bought the regular ones though. We used to not have an issue with smell - the odor-free ones did not have a scent to me at all, unless I like shoved it up against my nose. But lately, the ones I've gotten have had a scent. Not unbearable like the non-odor free ones but more smell than before, he also finishes them quicker, so I'm unsure if I am going to order again. He loves them, they keep him occupied and don't bother his tummy, but they are just so pricey. I just bought some Himlayan chews but he never likes them as much, he typically just carries them around the house and whines and buries them. Rawhides scare me though!! Jackson nearly choked on one too when he was younger, and it was so scary.

| Glad your baby is ok I thought I like the himalayan chews but two reasons I don't is a couple days later they get brittle and then joel can get peices off and for some reason the last two times Joel had them he puked and I know it wasn't.from getting a peice off, so I just said no more but he did love them |
