| My yorkie won´t eat Hi everyone I have just come across this forum as i was looking for advice about my little yorkie called Rocky. I adopted him 3 days ago. He is a male, neutered 5 year old adorable little dog and i´m already madly in love with him. The only problem is he doesn´t seem to want to eat. I guess it´s just the upset of leaving his previous home but he seems very happy and settled with me otherwise. He did live with another dog in his previous home,a llasa apso, who has been adopted by my daughter and the first night that we brought them home,i stayed at my daughters house so that the two dogs could still be together and he ate fine that night and the next morning, the problem just seems to be since he´s come home to my house. I´ve kept him on the same food that he was on with his previous owner,i´m just wondering if he may be tempted to eat something different. Also he will eat little "doggy" treats although i´m trying not to give him too many. Any advice would be greatly appreciated...thanks xxx |

| Hi and welcome to YT . He may just be missing his little friend and take a few days to adjust. Sometimes Yorkies are fussy eaters, I have 2 and one of them is quite a fussy eater, he has days when he does not eat much but he always eats treats!! Then he goes back to normal . He may have been better at eating with his little pal as it was a bit of competition for food, what are you feeding him on ?

imo , i would not change his food right now . It could make matters worse. If he was eating fine before he will probably be ok once he settles in.. You could try adding a little warm water on his kibble to make it more appetizing... if he lived with the lhasa apso his whole life , he is probably missing his friend and feeling lonely.. he just needs some time to adjust , maybe some visits with his friends will make him feel better.....

| Thankyou for your replies. At the minute he is on Pedigree chunks in jelly but i do intend to gradually change him onto a complete dry food as i feel that this will be better for his teeth. I think it is just due to all the change in circumstances as he seems fine otherwise...it´s just such a worry...i feel like a "new mum" again...hahaha xxx |

| Hello and welcome from a fellow UK-er! As everybody has said - it is probably just time - so much change for the little mite, but congratulations on your new baby!!! I personally would try to get him off Pedigree - it's not the best of foods Wet-food wise, are you able to get hold of Lily's Kitchen or something similar? It's organic, holistic and apparently suitable for human consumption (if you care to try it?!!? ). Dry food - again, opinions will vary greatly. All I know is, our Harry won't touch anything but Royal Canin breed specific - it's very difficult for us to get hold of many of the varieties our friends in the USA recommend Good luck to you both - I'm sure things will calm down soon Sally + Harry x |

Please dont change his food on him now too!! He is, in his little mind and heart, in upheaval....he is tryng to adjust to a new home, a new "momma" and family, he is missing his little buddy, the other pup....the only thing that has remained unchanged to him, is his food!!! He will adjust to his surrounding and changes in his life, and he will start to eat....I also think visits from his buddy the other pup, will let him know he has not been abandoned, just resituated and he still has his little friend for visits....I wouldnt let the previous owner visit...that in my opinion, would be too confusing to him....

| Thanks everyone...panic over Little Rocky is now eating again...i´m going to keep him on his usual food for a while then gradually, over a period of time, change it. He´s only been with me since wednesday and as everyone has pointed out,it´s been a huge upheaval for him but i´m giving him lots of love and cuddles and lots of walks which he loves xxx |
