Default rather have cat food

Does anyone know if it is okay for them to have cat food? Parker has just recently started ignoring his food and running to the cat bowl to gobble. He was doing well with that food, but now he is not interested.

my rosie did that and i asked my vet about it and she said its got to much protien in it for dogs and they shouldnt eat it, the reason they prefer cat food is because it has a stronger smell, what i do is feed her 1st then the cats when shes finished, yes she will still try to get to it but i shut her out the kitchen 1so the cats can eat in peace and 2 so she doesnt eat it, if theres a small amount left when they have finished i let her mop it up it hasnt hurt her yet but to much and she will get fat

Also cat food carries a much higher content of salt which is bad for kidneys.

Okay, I think you now know the answer is No but this is how my mom solved the question "where to put the cat food'? She went and bought an old wooden child high chair and now her cats eat in the high chair. In my house my cats have the living room and dining room (I don't use these rooms much) so the cats eat on my dining table.

I can give you a little different slant on this.

I contacted the Vet at the Purina pet food company and also checked with my vet --- because I had a dog that had lived on Meow Mix (a dry cat food) for 9 years.

They both told me that a dog "can" eat cat food, but like you all said, it is higher in protein than dog food is. Both vets told me that this is a problem only because it too fattening for a dog. The end result was that if my dog became overweight (which she did) -- she should be taken off the cat food (which she was). To be fair, I should mention that she ate cat food for more than 8 years without becoming overweight.

Even though they said that dogs can eat cat food - they both said that cats "cannot" eat dog food. Cats need to eat cat food. There are things in cat food that they need.

Given a dog's propensity to gain weight on cat food, I can see a vet saying that dogs should not eat cat food.
