| Post surgery/medicine reactions help! Hi! My 6 1/2 old baby had surgery just this past Friday. She is 4.7lbs. She was spayed, had bilateral inguinal hernia repair, 9 teeth pulled and her back dew claws removed. I had pre op blood work done and everything was fine. Since I've got her home she's been OK.. She's not eating much.. But some. Refuses to eat her regular kibble though, but is happy to have a few pieces of our German shepherds dog food?! Anyhow my main concern is her reaction to the pain meds. They gave me butorphanol. Only for 3 days. Well she seems fine before I give it to her and then 20 minutes after I do she becomes drowsy, shaky and whinny!! It's so sad, she looks miserable!! Is this reaction normal? I want to stop giving it to her but she had sooo much done! Also she has had a bowl movement since before the surgery. So 2 days. Is this normal too? I don't know, it's just stressing me out. I wish I would have never had the surgery!! She was so happy and healthy before!! I didn't think I'd miss her overly hyper, spazzy self so much!! |

| I feel horrible that this post went unanswered....I hope your poor little lady is doing a whole lot better....if she cant take the pain medicine, call the vet and get it changed...see if he will give her Torbutrol in Vitamino...it is a liquid, and it works really well on all my dogs that have any kind of surgery done....poor little girl...she has been thru a wringer and she needs some relief....please let us know how she is doing.... |

| Thanks for responding! All is well now. She's pretty much back to herself. We had some drama with e-collars.. Have tried like 4 different ones.. But I think we are in the clear now!! She's still not eating as much as she was before.. I think she is depressed over the cone of shame. Lol |

| Thank goodness! I am glad she is almost 100%!! Those cones do cause them some emotional trauma....but that too shall pass! Did you try a onsie to keep her from getting to the surgical sites? I dont know how large she is, but those baby onesies cover up the spay sites and hernia sites so they cant chew the stitches....that way, she wouldnt have to wear that nasty collar.... |

| That's actually a good idea! I didn't think of that! You mean an actual child onesie or do they make a special one for dogs? She's just under 5lbs |

| Awe I am glad she is doing better! As YorkieMom1 suggested onesies work great! My niece got a child's newborn onesie for her furbaby after she got spayed and it prevented her from licking the incision. Keep us posted on how she is doing.

| I'm glad to hear that she is starting to feel better. A newborn onesie would be great for her.
