| Changing their food Hello all. I was just wondering opinions on changing to a different dog food. Charlie has been on Royal Canine since he was able to eat and sometimes I wonder if he wouldn't mind a change. And then tonight I went to petco to get him some more Royal Canine and my ding dong self grabbed a bag of Royal Canine chihuahua puppy kibble instead of the one I usually get for him. When I got home and realized it, it was already past 9pm and petco was closed. Charlie was hungry, so I'd rather him eat that than starve. So I did give him some of it. Hopefully it wont upset his tummy. But it did spark the thought in my head to think about changing what he eats. Not because of me accidently choosing the wrong kind, but because I've thought about it before. Opinions? What dog food do you recommend? |

| What about getting some samples to try? It might help you to see if your pup really would want a change or not. I am slowly learning that you have to find and use what works best for YOUR pup. I home cook but do leave a dry food down for snacks. We are using Blue Buffalo Basics for small breeds. It is working well for us.

| RC Yorkie and RC Chi are hardly any different at all. I'm sure it'll be fine. However going from something like Pedigree to Orijen for example, would most likely cause upset. I rotate foods all the time. We have about 3 that we switch between (I rotate after every 5-6lb bag). Right now he's on Pure Vita Bison. He LOOOVEED Fromm and it's a fantastic brand, and we were feeding the Beef one, but I never could get his stools where I wanted them. They weren't horrible, just always a bit soft. Every one seems to have great luck on Fromm and I thought I'd give it another shot, thought we could at least have the beef one, but maybe it's another ingredient in there that doesn't agree with him. He also does very well on Earthborn and Acana (but we're no longer feeding Acana due to bag decrease and price increase, and reading reviews on here how the new formula made their yorkies itchy).

YT 2000 Club Member | I feed my Yorkies Blue Buffalo. They really like it. Spud is a senior so he gets senior food. JoJo is a year old so he is on adult food. It is very nutritious and they like the small kibble. I add a little wet food to it and they eat it up. It is a chicken and rice base. No junk added. |

| @kitty09 - Sometimes I wonder if he wouldn't like something else.. He eats it, but I can tell he wouldn't mind maybe a little more flavor. @BabyGirlRosie - Samples are a good idea. @Brister - Thanks so much for the info. You summed up everything for me with your posts. I feel better now. I didn't even think of looking up the differences on google. Thank you. He seems to kind of like the chi stuff actually. Wonder what the flavor difference is. P.S. I'd never feed him Pedigree. I'll see about samples of the ones you guys mentioned. I want him to enjoy his food as well as much as I want it to be good for him. |

YT 2000 Club Member | I hope you find a food your little Yorkie likes. It is important that it is tasty. I measure out the amount of food my guys get in the a.m. and then when I dish it out they get a tiny bit of water over it and mix with a little bit of the wet food. Blue Buffalo has a chicken and vegetable wet food they really like. Today they got little bites of cooked chicken. Happy Yorkies are well-fed little ones! Healthy food is so important. I am going to check to see if there is any trace of ethoxoquin in this food. If so, no more. That is not good for our Yorkies. Never use food with this preservative in it. |

| The store I buy from recommends Horizon and Fromm. They also like Pure Vita, but prefer Horizon and Fromm over it. We are currently feeding Horizon Legacy and have also fed Horizon Pulsar. We have also fed Fromm 4-Star Nutritionals. They have all been fine. I tend to rotate frequently.
