| Constantly itching! Hello all! Dexter and I need some help again, I've searched this forum but wanted to start a new topic. Dexter is constantly itching and biting his skin, though there's no obvious irritation signs, no fleas or ticks, his coat is healthy and his eyes are bright and shiny, no matting and no worms. He has been on the same food since before he started itching and biting. I'm just at a loss really, he doesn't seem in pain, but it can't be nice for him. He's scratching around his neck and backs of his front legs and always biting his rump. Thank you for any help |

| How old is he? Maybe he has seasonal allergies.

| Poor baby Could be seasonal allergies, but allergies to their food can also develop even after they've been eating it for years. Talk to your vet about trying some meds and possibly switching to a grain-free, novel-protein food.

| Poor baby! I would take him to the vet. I was having this problem with Sophia, and we switched her to a grain free food and she has been doing much better!

| We have to stick to a grain free food....I also have to be real careful what I use to bathe Levi with. He has a lot of issues with certain shampoos/ conditioners.

| Thank you for the advice, by seasonal allergies do you mean like hayfever? He has been sneezing a lot over the summer. I'll look into changing his food as well. The vet said there was nothing wrong with him, he's just an 'itchy dog'. He's an older bet that annoys me, there are 5 at ours and you can't request a particular one |

YT 500 Club Member | My little Dolly is doing the same thing that yours is doing I have taken her to my local twice and they had her on steriods but as soon as we take her off the steriods she goes back to itching really bad. I am taking her to the University of Illinois tomorrow, I will update after we have been there as to what they suggest. |

| Dora was always scratching on those same spots and 2 days ago I was checking her for fleas and saw this very small specks on her skin that looks like part of her skin. I scratch one & it came off ,I put it under my microscope just to see what it was, and to my surprise it was a baby tick! I started going thru all her body and so far I have found over 25, this things are so small that they are extremely hard to see, is like the tip of a needle, that's the smallest thing I can think off. I have change her food, the vet gave her a shampoo, itch medicine, and we have never been able to find the cause for her itch. I do engraving with a microscope and even looking thru the scope they are very hard to see, you can identify them because you see the legs. She is not scratching anymore like she used to. |

♥Trained by my pups♥ Donating YT 500 Club Member | Yes they usually give steroids. And sometimes children Benadryl. Best to ask the vet if this would help the itching.

| Chiggers? I have to look into that because all the pictures I have found online of ticks they are bigger than what she's got. I believe Dora is going to have a bubble bath today with Dawn... |

| I've heard switching to a diet with rice as the primary source of grains helps. Tallulah has Nutro's Natural Choice Small Bites, which is a lamb and rice formula. It does beautiful things for her skin and coat.
