| Any recommendations for high quality small bite low fat dry food? My Columbo is almost 9 yrs old and is a couch potato. He weighs around 8 to 8.5 lbs. He was around 1 to 1.5 lbs heavier until I switched his food to Innova low fat several years ago. P&G bought Innova, so I've been waiting to see if they would change the recipe. Not sure if they did that, but apparently the pet store said they now no longer make the small bag in his type food as it must not be a profitable seller. I've checked a couple different stores and I guess it must be true as they all only had the 15lb bag or larger. That bag would take months to go through and would be stale, so I'm thinking this would be a good time to change foods. Right now, I use a pill cutter to cut the Innova low fat kibble (which is a fairly small size to begin with) in half, so I'm not opposed to continuing that with another food if necessary. He has lost a lot of teeth despite brushing and I know he doesn't always chew it up, which is why I cut it for him, although he can eat it without cutting. I'm looking at the Wellness Core. They have a low fat type and also a small breed type, but not one that is both. I've sent for samples to try them, but does anyone have recommendations for a good quality food that is low fat and also a small size bite? Also, do you think the small bite regular Wellness Core would cause him to gain weight even though it says it is lower fat & carbs? It looks like a great food. My guy is a couch potato, but he does get regular walks. He is also recovering from his second knee surgery this year, so I need to keep him from gaining as he recovers. Thanks for any opinions and suggestions. |

| Wellness Core Reduced Fat is a great decision, especially if they have a smaller kibble now. I have not seen the small kibble yet though. The regular is sort of hard and round. Fromm has very small kibbles. Their grain-frees are the tiniest but most of them are all pretty small. They have a Whitefish & Potato option (though I think that's their biggest kibble out of all the recipes) that is low fat, etc. Their Gold line also has a senior line with lower fat and lower protein.

| We have fed the Fromm whitefish and potato. The kibble isn't tiny, but it's also not very big either. If I remember correctly, they are small triangles. I believe the protein is 23 and the fat is 11. There are other low fat foods available. A lot of the senior foods are lower in fat too. You might also look into Horizon's foods. They have some senior varieties too. They have a line called Amicus that is especially for small breeds.

| Vets Choice Little Bites has a low fat formula...and the kibble are maybe a tiny bit bigger than a BB....maybe a LeSeur Baby Green Pea. It is a holistic dog food....I love it and feed it along with my RC to the seniors for hips and joints....Look under Vets Choice Little Bites on google...you can read all about it...and dogs absolutely love the stuff! |

| I don't know about a low fat food, but...I use a ziploc baggie and a rolling pin to crush up kibble for my puppy . Make sure you release all the air from the bag before rolling or hitting the bits in it. (depends on how my day was as to which technique I use ) Might be easier than a pill cutter.

Max Main's Mamma Donating YT Member | Max is on the Wellness Core and it has been great thus far. He is only about a year old now and hasn't had any weight issues yet though. I think a lot of older dogs can be couch potatoes..at least my Boxers are. Good luck in finding a good food.

| I've been feeding mine Wellness small breed healthy weight (lower fat & calories), and alternate with Wellness for seniors (lower fat & lower protein) but not small. Even though they are only 3 & 4 yrs. old, they are not very active and I feel the senior formula is ok to help them lose a little weight.

| Small Breed Bites Sadie likes Dick VanPatten's Natural Balance Limited Ingredient Diets (LID) Small Breed Bites. It comes in a 5 pound bag and is grain free, so it's very good for dogs with allergies. It's a potato and duck formula. Good Luck!!

| The Barking at the Moon samples came yesterday and he gobbles it down. Interestingly, about a week ago when there was a big moon, we were all sitting on the porch and Columbo started barking at the moon! He is almost 9 and he's never done that before. He growls and barks at hot air balloons and water towers, but the moon is a first. So when we found the food called Barking at the Moon, my husband said it was a sign and that maybe he was supposed to have that food. |
