| Don't know what to do about my Sugars skin!!?? I have a 2 year old yorkie. She is 4lbs and not fixed. For the most part she is a very happy healthy pup. She loves steamed veggies like broccoli, carrots, mushrooms and she also eats Pedigree dog food. She only has problems with her food when she eats too fast and doesn't chew ( she get jealous of my boxer and shepherd). So I give her little pieces at a time. For some reason I can't seem to get her to stop itching. She chews her legs and behind until she gets scabs. She also has flaky skin like dandruff. I've tried oatmeal baths, t-gel shampoo, baby shampoo, sensitive skin shampoo for dogs, baby oil, and eucalyptus oil, hot spot spray and cortisone spray for dogs. I've tried skipping baths and just wiping her paws and face with unscented baby wipes. She also as a terrible smell and feels damp. She smells like feet and a wet dog. I've checked her ears and they are clean and smell fine. So the smell has to be her skin. I've taken her to the vet for it twice and they give me a few weeks worth of prednisone and happily take my $200 without giving me a clue. All they say is that it must be fleas and it will clear up. But she gets Advantix II. I really don't know what else to do. I've been considering children's allergy meds in small doses to see if that clears her up. |

| it is possible that the itchy skin is from her diet. sometimes a grain free kibble helps... personally i would not give her people medication. maybe a different vet ? i think that is where i would start. has she had a full blood panel done ? maybe she has some underlying health problems that is causing the itching... |

| I live in the country in Indiana and there really is a bad selection of vets where I live. The vet she has been seeing since I got her is an hour away. Hopefully by taking her somewhere else I'll get some sort of answer. All her vet told me is that she had dermatitis. Which I know means inflammation of the skin from taking medical terminology. I have heard that some people give their yorkies childrens benadryl to lessen the itch. I actually spoke to a person who works for poison control and was told that the only difference between the prescription medicine people and animals get is that medicine for veterinary use isn't regulated as strictly. |

| I think I would get her in to see a Vet Dermatologist. Has your Vet tried any antibiotics on her yet?

| They have only given me clavamox and prednisone. But as soon as she ran out of them the itching and scabby dry skin was back. It almost feels like she is sweating. He whole body get clammy and smelly. She just chews and digs her poor skin. |

| Well, if I were you...I would get her on a different food immediately. The first ingredient in her food is ground whole corn and that can be the cause of her itching. You might try something that doesn't contain corn or grains. There are much better foods available. |

| Poor baby I second the suggestion of a Vet Dermatologist. Sounds like your regular vet doesn't really know what the issue is and is just attempting to treat the symptoms. My girls are allergic to fleas, just ONE on them will send their skin into a horrible state They also smell and look greasy when that happens and the only thing that stopped it was a steroid injection at the vet and antibiotic for two weeks. Could be what you're dealing with. The flea meds don't work that great at repelling fleas, they only kill them once they bite the dog, and that can set off the allergy (they're actually allergic to the flea saliva, ewww LOL) Good luck with your baby, I Hope you can get some answers and a cure soon!

| She is very allergic to the fleas also. I found that out when she had a few on when she was a pup and broke out in little pimple like blisters. I try my very best at keeping them off of her and my other pets. They get Advantix II. But I live on 5 acres so I can't really keep the big dogs from carrying them toward the house after they get their exercise. I do have other dogs. They are a 6 year old boxer and a 1 year old German shepherd and neither of them have any skin problems. So If it were mites or mange or something like that I would assume that they would have it too... I really just can't figure out what else it would be besides allergies. |

| They have been really bad this year. I try my best to keep them out but can only do so much. I used to use Frontline but noticed that after the first week the fleas would reappear. So I switched to Advantix II and had much better success. If you buy it through Amazon it only comes out to about $10 a dose. There is a product called SEVEN that you can get at the hardware store. It comes in a bottle that attaches to the hose and you spray the yard with it. Works pretty well but with such a big yard it would take me a week to cover it all and a ton of money. |
