Default Help with what I think is anorexia?

Our toy Yorkie (4 lbs) has not eaten much the past three days (since Sunday). She threw up some clear liquid a couple of times Sunday morning, and pretty much hasn't eaten much of anything since. She loves dark meat chicken, but only took a couple of bites of that last night & this morning. I have been giving her sips of sugar water and she's taking some regular water on her own. Urine seems normal and poop is soft, normal color. No more vomiting or coughing, etc.

I know Yorkies are picky eaters - we have all kinds of games we play to get her to eat normally, but this is different - she is just not acting right. We really cannot afford an expensive vet visit. We just moved to a new home three weeks ago and she and our chihuahua have adapted nicely - she's been fine until Sunday. Is there anything anyone knows of to maybe stimulate her appetite or help her until she gets back to normal? Many thanks!

well first i hate to say this but money should not be even considered when your baby is sick and needs a vet visit. i understand about it being tight trust me but please if she needs to be seen that should be most important. im not trying to be mean. shes only 4 pounds and needs to eat....and if you have used all avenues and havent gotten her to eat with her most favorite things then im going to say a vet visit is in order. and sugar water im not sure how good that would be for her hopefully others can offer better advice on that.

Hello and welcome to YT I'm sorry your little one isn't feeling well. Have you given any new treats lately? Some that are made in China (most brands of Chicken Jerky) are sickening and even killing some dogs.

Maybe she got ahold of something outside? Any different plants than the old house, mushrooms croppig up in the yard? Sago Palms are highly poisonous as well, so if you have any of those around and there's any way she could have eaten a seed, she needs help now. Regardless of what it might be, she needs to see a vet. It would just be helpful if you knew of anything to tell the vet so they have something to go on. These little ones don't have much reserves and they cannot go on and on without medical intervention. A dog that won't eat is a sure sign that something's wrong.

I hope she's better soon!

Thanks, LunasMomma & rubymoon2072. I do think a vet trip may be in order, just was checking here to see if there might be any other homeopathic solutions before that. We had a great vet in Texas that we absolutely loved, he was very practical, not expensive, didn't order unnecessary tests or treatments and he really had intuition about these tiny creatures. Helped us tremendously with her teeth probs, lack of tearing on one eye, careful treatment with immunizations, etc. Chiquita is a tough little cookie - very feisty usually, so it is concerning to see her a bit subdued. We wondered if it might be a delayed psych reaction to the move. If we don't see any improvement by tomorrow, probably will look up a vet locally and see what he/she says. Again, many thanks for your thoughts!

She needs to be seen by a vet and be evaluated. One time there was a dog on here that wouldnt eat and it ended up that the dog was in kidney failure and that was the only symptom showing

Poor baby........when they start acting strange, they vomit and then they go off their favorite food, a vet visit is called for. Something is wrong..........the longer you wait, the more serious it can become, and the more $$$$ it will cost.

Smile Crisis averted...

Just wanted to circle back and let everyone who so kindly posted here about Chiquita and her "anorexia" that she is back to normal. We are still not quite sure exactly what was going on, but Tuesday evening, she just simply "snapped out of it," and began demanding food again and acting like her old self. Personally, we had many prayers going up for this little creature and I believe God is an animal lover and simply healed her. To ease the minds of those who were concerned, we were planning to take her to the vet Wed. AM first thing, but thankfully, she is fine now and we avoided that expense. Again, I appreciate all the kind thoughts, suggestions and concern for her.

maybe she had some sort of a "bug" that was going around...these little ones and can sick very quickly. I'm not quite sure about feeding her dark chicken meat. There is more fat in the dark meat...and you should be boiling the white meat...Glad to hear she is doing better

My dog had the same problem. I drove her to the emergency vet at 2 in the morning. They gave her a shot for her tummy and told me she had a flu bug. I never knew that dogs could get sick like that. It took about two days before she was back to herself again.

Vets always recommend plain boiled white meat chicken. They do throw up when they have an empty stomach, but if going off food often...needs some medical attention I think.

Please get some nutrical instead of giving sugar water, it has essential vitamins & minerals.
