| Tick!?! So I let the pups in from a potty break and found a tick on Anakin! I have never seen a tick, but I looked it up and that is what it was. I just moved and took the pups for a vet check-up last week and asked about ticks and fleas in the area, I was told they are not prevalent...I think I am going to call the vet in the morning because I get nervous not only for the dog but the ticks getting in the house. Anakin seems like his normal self, just scratching at his head. We pulled it off of Anakin's head and he had some blood in a small spot. He keeps scratching it, so I checked with tweezers and I couldn't find anything to pull out. The pups and I have been in this new area for 8 months, and I have not seen any, I also asked the groomer before and she said the same as the vet. I used MinkSheen but stopped because I couldn't get it, does this help against ticks? (It says it is a natural insect repellant)? Thank you for reading and any thoughts will be appreciated I don't know if I should put them on preventative or what to even use as where I lived before we never had ticks or fleas.

| We have a terrible tick problem where I live and frontline does not work here for them so I use Advantix and it works great.

| Oh I've probably picked at least 20 ticks off Jackson in the past almost four years, lol. They're gross, but I'm used to them. Wouldn't worry about one at all. They're not like fleas... if you see one, there's not usually another, etc. They don't spread. Sometimes Jax will get a little scab where I picked one off. We use Advantix but don't use it every month. I don't like putting the chemicals on them too much if I don't have to. Lately ticks have not been as bad for us for some reason. But I feel him over every night and he gets bathed weekly.

| I just got nervous because my brother in laws brothers dog is paralyzed from a disease contracted from ticks. They took him to the vet and they put him on antibiotics? I talked to the vet today and they said if he doesn't have any symptoms by now he should be fine. They only sell frontline there, I wonder where I can get the other?

| Ewww nasty!! If you are looking for Advantix you can order it on Amazon! I just bought a 4 pack for 35$ bran spanking new!~ I have used Advantix since Peanut was old enough to have it on, I have never had any fleas, ticks or anything! I love that product and will probably always use it..

| Ticks, I hate them. We have them bad here. But we have the yard treated and I treat the girls. I have had good luck with Advantix and Vectra 3D. I only use 1/2 a tube on each one. Frontline is worthless in my area for ticks. Mink sheen will not stop ticks. I think it helps with fleas and maybe some others but not ticks. Luckily, the ticks we get here are the little ones on my girls. I would probably be a little freaked out if there was a big one too! Lol The vet can do a blood test to check for certain diseases. They did one on Mikki when I first got her because she had ticks on her. I am not sure what all they check for.

| Poor Anakin! When I remove ticks, I swab the area with a little bit of rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide and then I dab with organic coconut oil (which is better than Neosporin).

| We ended up taking Anakin to the vet. This morning the bite looked angry and I pulled out two splinter like things out of it. The vet said it looked fine and it was good I got the whole thing out. So I ended up purchasing Vectra for them and they applied it there. He said the site is fine and to just keep monitoring him. Poor little guy, it was on the side of his head and now it is like a pin hole with redness around the site. I got some antibiotic and the 3 month supply of Vectra. I asked about symptoms and he said if he was going to react it would be in the first 24 hours, and he has been his normal happy self. Thanks everyone for the help, I hope I don't have to deal with those anymore.

| I'm glad you got it all taken care of... We don't have ticks around here but we do have fleas and boy are they hard to get rid of once they've jumped on your dogs! I'm glad you got the whole thing out and Anakin is on the mend now

| Anakin is doing great. Talking to the vet we think he may have picked up the tick from the pet resort we took them to that week. It's a boarding care place in the forest part of Ventura. We have not seen another one again.
