| Teeth pulling tomorrow, CONCERNS! Howie has been having trouble with his teeth so we went to the dentist and she said that he needs some teeth pulled and a cleaning. We will be taking him in tomorrow and I am extremely nervous since I have been looking online and finding out that some small dogs have died from a procedure like that because of the anesthesia !!! Howie is only 2lbs so I am not sure if I want to risk it but I also don't want him to have further complications with his teeth! HELP PLEASE! Also the dentist was aware of his small size yet did not say there would any problems putting him under. |

vets use a special anesthesia for tiny dogs like yours and it is a lot safer. only you can make the decision whether to have the procedure done or not. bad teeth can cause many other problems. i wish i had some more useful advice for you. talk to your vet and ask what kind of anesthesia they use for tiny dogs and what kind of precautions they take to monitor him during the surgery.. also it would be a good idea to have a full blood panel done before the surgery to make sure everything is ok with howie | |

| If the correct anesthesia is used and preop testing has been done to rule out issues that make anesthesia very risky, it should be fine. Leaving teeth in that state is much more dangerous than surgery...

| I went ahead and went through with it, the vet made me feel reassured that he would be ok but still obviously a risk. But he showed me how bad of an infection he had in his mouth I could not bear to leave Howie like that any longer. He deserves to have a healthy mouth, I just hope everything goes ok since he is such a little guy |
