| Itching, rubbing, skin sores My girl Grace has been suffering from sores and itching, rubbing up and down on furniture, horrible sores down her back, her coat dull and weak. Well I think I found the solution!!! I found a thread about glycerin having a connection to anti-freeze. I began to read the ingredients of her treats, and got rid of anything that had glycerin, in ONE DAY she began to improve. Its been 4 days and she keeps getting better and better!! a couple of years ago my vet put drops in her eyes and with a black light timed to see how long it took for the drops to appear out her nose, which is normal, but it did not happen, clogged, she even suggested that Grace was mal-formed. Well today I can see moisture in her nostrals!! So everyone go an elimated food and treats, that have clycerin I even went through my dog shampoos and conditioners and anything with glycerin I threw away. |

| My middle baby has been chewing her feet for some time now. Doc feels it is an allergic reaction to grass. She rarely goes out anymore, we have to force her these days. I just performed a check on our treats and found the Blue Buffalo treats contain vegetable glycerin. The organic treats I have do not contain that ingredient. I trashed the BB treats, just in case that may be irritating her. I heaved switched food, given her Benadryl, purchased cream for her feet, nothing really giving her complete relief.

| itching sore feet I was so excited about Grace recovering so rapidly that I forgot to mention that our other girl Lily who has not had the horrible sores and rubbing her nose had sore feet ( Grace had this too), it seems that that too is ebbing. Benadryl is still given to both as it was the simplest remedy for an allergic reaction, that we will still give Grace as she has a collapsed treacia ( that did not help as the allergic reaction gave her little air at all). She is even wanting to sleep in the big beg again and that has not happened for awhile. We are so hopeful and grateful that she seems happy again, and engaging in life! |

| Do you know where this thread or article is? I am very interested in it. Our border collie Daisy is having some issues with her skin. We were giving her salmon oil and her hair was getting real soft and skin was improving. Well now her hair and skin is getting real bad and she is so itchy. The only thing different was treats we added so I'm going to check if these have that ingredient and if this may be the cause of it.

| Alright so I just went through her treats and 2 of the four treats, the ones we gave her most, do contain glycerin. The one treat is suppose to be all natural and organic and even good for their skin. This makes me so mad. It has to be the treats because her hair was doing so good until lately and the treats were the only difference. Why do they put this crap in their treats anyway?! I just read an article on the internet that talks about glycerin. It apparently absorbs moisture and is one of the ingredients in the Waggin Trail strips that was making dogs sick!! I feel so bad about it because I always try to get organic healthy treats. I had no idea some still contain glycerin and how bad that ingredient is. Thank you so much for the heads up. I will keep you posted on whether there are any improvements with Daisy once she has been off the treats for awhile.

| Natural and organic are descriptive labels for ingredients...the ingredients themselves are importabt.important. Silly example but would you use, "All natural organic snake venon" Its sad marketing is so manipulated. its buyer beware everywhere and especially in Oz you are flooded with Chinese products boasting natural herbal blah and they are extremely harmful, organic is great right.. but what is organic is more important, also depending on who usea the word thats a huge judgenebt on the calidiry of it. Homeopathic is the best most inused word.

| Glycerin in dog food, treats, shampoos I was at my wits end trying to figure out why my Grace was having these skin sores. I read everything that people posted that could be related. I was thinking about the dog food etc that came from China that was harmful to dogs and I found a article about a plant prevalent in Asia that was now being used as a bio-fuel and a derivative was a glycerin which then was used in human products but also dog products. That was when I removed anything that had glycerin in it from my dogs diet. I was curious and wanted to let other dog owners know what I had found out but I just google if glycerin was harmful to dogs and poof there was so much more out there to warn us about how this product is like giving our pets antifreeze to taste, well we certainly know how harmful antifreeze is. Its been about a week since we have removed the glycerin and being bath day we watched her skin absorb the water and watched to see if the sores were there or if they have disappeared entirely, we would be safe to believe that they are gone, a faint trace of irritation that has been on the mend. She seems happier to us, because she had spent so much time looking for a place to rub herself, sofas, bed skirts, her bed pillow even began to rub the drapes. She does dig under her pillow but pops up with a smile on her face ( you know Yorkies can smile) and runs off to see what else is going on since she was not watching. I will keep things posted but I am not sure how to use this site |

| Shiny and solidifying a bonding agent...I'm guessing, its also an preservative in slight quality and pest detourant. Not to sterilze thars for sure.

| I am in amazement all the stuff that is now coming out that is in pet items. I guess it is getting to the point where we are going to have to start looking up everything. Very sad. I am so glad you found out the problem and your baby is on the mend.

YorkieTalk Newbie! | Thank you for the heads up about Glycerin! My sweet little Jack Daniels has been biting his feet all summer and we had to put him on steroids for a little while. The vet thinks he is allergic to fleas so now he is on a monthly pill to kill any fleas...we have also been giving him baths with zymox shampoo and conditioner once a week... His hair is also thinning and I don't know why... |

| My Bailey also chews her feet - last year the vet said it was allergies and put her on a daily pill. She's chewing again and also her hair is so thin I can see her skin. We've had a lot of family changes and I'm wondering if it is stress. We've moved twice within the last year and also a new family member who she is not fond of has moved in with us (2 year old granddaughter). Can stress cause hair loss? I'm going to check her treats for glycerin also. Thanks so much for this find!

| Glyercin in shampoo and conditioner is a humectant, it is a materical that has the ability to bind a lot of water. It is also used in moisturising products for this reason. I don't see why it would be an irritant if used on the skin or ingested, but hey whatever works for your pup! |
