| Best Food For Yorkie Pups Hi, everyone. Hubby and I are getting a new little guy in a couple weeks. I was just curious as to what the best food was for yorkie puppies. What do you guys feed your little ones? I'm thinking about Wellness Puppy Formula for Small Breeds. I've also heard good things about Enova. |

| I'd start by checking out Dog Food Advisor for ingredient analysis and reviews. Here's a link to their top-rated puppy foods. Best Puppy Foods My preference is for grain-free foods. Toki is almost 11 months old and we have been rotating through the different grain-free Fromm varieties. I'd definitely recommend Fromm if you can get it locally. Acana/Orijen are also great choices and I like Blue Buffalo as well. Toki has been on the BB Chicken and Oatmeal for puppies as well as the BB Wilderness for puppies and done well on both. |

well normally the best thing to do is keep the puppy on the food he was being fed at the breeder . i would do this for at least the first month untill he gets settled in and feeling secure. then if you want to change to the wellness puppy do so gradually. start with 75% old 25% new then every few days increase new & decrease old. as far as puppy foods you have many to choose from fromm acana orijen blue buffalo just to name a few

| I would not necessarily go with any food listed on a dog food advisory site because some of them have been recalled and some company's are just not good company's and some get there ingredients from China. What is your puppy eating now and why do you want to change that? I feel for a week or two the puppy needs be on the food he has been on so its not to many changes for his system that can upset him and you want to be able to tell if he has stomach problems if its because of new food or just change.

| That's true about just going with any random food on that website just because it's on a list...but it's still a good starting point to see what is available and to compare foods across the board. This thread has some good resources for China ingredients and an interesting Customer service test. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...rce-china.html Definitely contact the company to get more information on CURRENT ingredient sourcing and manufacturing practices among other factors as these things are always subject to changing. I can't say much about Innova since I haven't fed it too much or contacted the company but before you try to transition to Innova, I'd shoot Natura Pet an email to get more info on their ingredients and practices and whatnot. Fromm is a great company. And if you email them, they will send you a $5 off coupon! Toki has done so well on their food! We are rotating through their grain-free varieties currently. If you can find Fromm locally, the stores should have free samples to give you | |

| FROMM is made in the USA in their own plant. Never had a recall and has been making pet food since WW2. Mine eat it and live it. Feed what works for you and your furbutt.

I was just looking at Fromm's puppy food and just wondered if it met the specific needs of smaller pups? I looked online and didn't find any that said for small pups. That's kind of what I was wondering because I know yorkies sometimes are prone to hypoglycemia and I didn't want him to have a puppy food that doesn't cater to small breeds. Sorry to keep asking but I was just curious. Thanks!

I think the fromm puppy gold (pink bag) will be fine. That is what my oscars breeder uses for all her puppies from weaning on up. Oscar was on it till about 7 months and he is in excellent health, then i changed him to adult food. Yes , wellness was recalled at one point but i think that was mainly the large breed foods. Fromm puppy is pretty gentle so if you are anxious about keeping him on the wellness it probably wont hurt to switch him right over to the fromm . Just watch him the first couple days . Another way to prevent hypoglycemia is to free feed. ( leave his food out all day) . Discard what is left at bedtime and put fresh food out in the morning..

| Fromm is all stages so good for puppies. But I got the puppy hoping it was smaller kibbles for easy eating. Haven't tried the puppy. But Moki likes the other Fromms. They sent me samples and $5 off. I got a can just to mix with the kibble for a treat. Ime if you feed good foods it won't affect a healthy pup. No runny stools ect. The cheap foods with all the fillers do. But you still mix slow incase theres something that maynot agree with but usually no probs.JME http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f9...mike86/013.jpg http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f9...ke86/024-1.jpg http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f9...mike86/025.jpg |
