Warning China Chicken Jerky! FDA has issued warning about Chicken Jerky/treats made in China. Making dogs sick. This is old news as it has been the case for some time, but it is a new warning.

| The FDA is involved? Wow, it's about time. I don't think they did anything about this before but maybe I'm wrong. Wonder if they will do the same for other things. Thanks for sharing.

China Treats I copied the passage below FYI. At least the FDA is looking at the pet foods even if they cannot recall. These China Jerky treats have been suspect for years and my Vet warned me not to feed them. "Last week, Senator Barbara Boxer sent a letter to the FDA, urging the agency to take greater steps to alert consumers to the potential danger of feeding the treats as well as to find the source of the contamination. The FDA and other animal health diagnostic laboratories have tested samples for multiple chemical and microbiological contaminants, including Salmonella, heavy metals, pesticides, antibiotics, mycotoxins, rodenticides and other chemicals and poisonous compounds, but have been unable to determine a cause for the reported illnesses. The samples also underwent DNA verification to confirm the presence of poultry in the treats. Because no contamination has been found and because the FDA does not have recall powers, most of the treats remain on the market. Pet supply stores and discount retailers have not pulled them from shelves because no direct link between the illnesses and the jerky products has been found. On Friday, however, Arthur Dogswell LLC recalled 1051 cartons of Catswell VitaKitty Chicken Breast with Flaxseed and Vitamins after discovering the treats contained high levels of propylene glycol, which can cause anemia in cats. The lot codes, found on the bottom right back side of the package, are SEW12CH032701/03c and SEW12CH032702/03c, with best-before dates of 9/10/13 and 9/11/13 respectively. Consumers can return the treats to the place of purchase for a full refund. Until the chicken jerky mystery is solved, it’s best to avoid giving the treats to your pets. If you continue to buy them, check the label for country of origin and avoid products made in China."

Why would anyone buy food made in China anyways? The taint the human baby food, dog food ect. Sure maybe some stuff you can't get away from but when you can buy good Usa or Canadian food? If they have recalls they fix it. The co who manufacture in China just say its been tested okay and keep selling it? Take your business elsewhere. JMO

I know. That what I said when I said the baby food was tainted....I should have said Human baby formula. Sure if you want to eat Asian food your going to buy some stuff made there. But when it's processed like dog food or whatever. I wouldn't trust it. But I'm a healthy eater anyways..I eat the stuff what grows in the ground.I can find some in my garden. They are vegetables. Amazing when I go shopping how many ppl like off TV dinners or boxed everything. Not real food. My pup gets Fromm and homemade mixed... Snacks would be fresh meat or something. But I'm thinking of making Elk for him this winter. But back to the jerky. Sure there a recall. It's all how the company handles it. Pull it off the shelves. Give $$ back. And investigate,. Fix the problem. But some of these companys act like nothing wrong. wtf?? Last edited by ironmike86; 07-31-2012 at 05:46 PM.

I dont nderstand there are still people out there buying jerky from China????? This has been publically denounced for many years and it is a recurring theme covered in any pet publication....I cant believe they are still buying this toxin. Mine love elk jerky as well as venison jerky...I am thinking of doing duck in my dehydrator next!
