2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | Need help: Brandi freaks out when I try to clip her nials. Ok so here is yet another issue with one of my babies. Brandi my 6 yr old...She is the one that suffers from seizers which I doubt has anything to do with this resect problem. Trimming her nails has recently become impossible!! She just freaks out. I never had much of an issue until the past two months. She just goes crazy when I even touch her paws. She wont let me clip her nails. I am always very careful not to put too much pressure on them when I hold her paw to get the right angle. My sister and I both tried to get it done last month and she was just uncontrollable. She wouldn't even let us use the electric nail sander. I don't know what is going on. The only thing that I can think of that may have changed is when she and another of my Yorkies had a little tiff and Brandi got her paw bit. It was a minor bite but still a bite. Other than that, I am at a loss. What can I do to get her nail clipped? I took a genital approach with her and handled her with very delicate hands s I do all my pups, but still she was having nothing to do with it. I cant let this go on much more, they are over grown and need done soon. Anyone dealt with this issue before and if so how do you deal with getting them clipped? Any thaughts ....

| I tried and tried and tried to do Sasha's nails on my own and sadly was never able to. She wouldn't sit still for me and would freak out for it as well. Plus, when she was a puppy, I did quick her once as her nails are black so it's hard to see the quicks anyways. I now take her to Petsmart at least every other week and have them grinded. She's much more calmer with them than she is me probably because she can sense my fear whenever I tried to do them. If we're at the vet and she's due to have a trim, I'll have the vet do them while I'm there. She doesn't particularly enjoy car rides so that does worry me as she begins to get older but like I said, I take her every other week since her quicks are so long and I'm beginning to notice her not freaking out as bad. |

| Sometimes a sudden dislike of something cannot be explained. Teddy didn't want to sleep in my bedroom for close to 6 months for no apparent reason. Now it's okay again. I agree with taking her to the vet or a professional groomer. Trimming more often may help too, to regain familiarity with the process. Patient re-training at home may pay off, but her nail growth may make time an issue. I know Max will never let me trim his nails. Luckily, he files them down to the perfect length on our walks.

| I had Jaeger dremel trained when he was really young, before his first vet visit. The vet tech freaked him out, and he's never let me touch his nails since then. They're claws! I've got him trained to where he'll 'give me a paw' and 'let me touch your nails' and he'll do all that with the dremel on, but to let me actually do them? Nope, hasn't happened yet. |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I honestly wish there was a reasonable solution for this because I have the same exact issue. She freaks out like she is going to die. Which is so hilarious because she doesn't even show half amount of that emotion when she's getting shots or even blood extracted from the vets. It takes so much patience out of me just to clip the nails from one paw. And I honestly don't get why she's scared either because she's never had an traumatic incident dealing with her paws. When I asked the vet, he said maybe she just doesn't like the sound of her nails being clipped. The only thing that seems to help me (other then simply taking them to the groomers) is to clip her nails when I can tell she's sleepy so she'll be less fussy. Other then that, I just spread the clipping sessions. Like two paws one day, a few hours apart, and the back paws the next day, few hours apart also. Patience. oh and sometimes I massage her paws every now and then so she tries to get more desensitized to paw handling.

| I have to use the Pedipaws on Tibbe as I would rather be beaten than use nail clippers on dogs - just freaks me out for fear I will get a cuticle and hurt my baby. So we grind a little every 3 or 4 days for about 2 - 2 1/2 minutes total, most of which time is taken in positioning the tiny toe so I have a good hold over the pad so the grinder won't touch it and just get the nail. If I get too near the cuticle using it, he'll start to pull back with his paw and I stop on that nail.

| It's fairly loud with fresh batteries but I desensitized Tibbe to the sound over a few days time slowly, feeding him treats as it ran beside him and soon he was cool with it. It's far easier to use and 200% less stress than clipping.

| I'd like to trim Toki's nails a lot more often than once every 1 to 1 1/2 months when she goes to the groomer's so I'll have to try out the Pedipaws. |

Im going to try again, and see what kind of prgress I can make. Maybe if I do her paws before her bath it may be less stressful for her.

| Oh no, I’m sorry it’s a war with Peanut when I attempt to trim his nails. I tried over and over when he was a puppy and he would put up the biggest fight~ It is soooo not worth it to me, so I just take him into the Vet’s office and have them do it- I think sometimes they know they can get away with things with the Mommies and the Daddy’s- I wouldn’t stress over it, Can you take her into the groomer or the Vet and have them do it?

| If you find the answer let me know. I'm in the same boat. Kayla has CT and we can't just run to the vet with her for something like that because of those horrible breathing spells she has. She flat refuses to let me cut her nails. I have the pedipaw but you have to be careful not to get their hair caught in it. I have the one that lets you know where the quick is. I have everything to do them with and here we are, she refuses. I think I am going to have the same problem with Rocky. Dudley, well, Dudley lays on his back and could care less what you do to him. Oh, how I wish the others were like that. |

| I have this issue with my mothers shih tzu, before my mother got her I think she went to the groomers and well they couldn't groom her, she puts up a fight she hates for you to touch her front feet, since I have patience im the one that grooms her and it takes FOREVER, she has skin problems she was put on med for allergies then that didn't help vet did a scrape said Demodectic Mange and was put on medicine, the medicine didnt help, she has major body odor, dry skin, itches constantly so I been keeping her hair trimmed and im going to try cocotherapy oil on her since I been reading good reviews about it and hope it helps her.. |
