| FreshPet Vital Complete Meals My store got a new FreshPet product in yesterday...Vital Complete Meals. Their website: Chicken, Beef, Salmon & Egg With Cranberries & Spinach Dog Food Recipe | Freshpet My Yoshi LOVES it. And that it EXTREMELY rare. He is the pickiest eater ever. However, I noticed that he had serious stinky gas all last night. I was wondering if anyone else has tried FreshPet Vital Complete Meals & how it works/ed for you. I also gave him 1/2 of a Stella & Chewy's rehydrated freeze dried Chewy Chicken Dinner. That may be the reason for the gas as well...? Yoshi & I are forever testing new food. He'll eat something for a day & then decide that he doesn't like it anymore. It makes me CRAAAAZY!!!!

| What is the rest of his diet like? How often are you changing foods? I know that changing foods without giving a dog the chance to transition can cause some GI tract upset. Also intolerance to a specific ingredient could be giving Yoshi gas. BTW my Toki really enjoys the freeze-dried Stella & Chewy's! She hasn't had any gas (thank god haha). I'd stick with one food for a while to get every thing settled down. It's more difficult to figure out what exactly is going on with so many different foods factored in. |

I bought some samples yesterday (Vital, Stella, Nature's Variety Raw Bites - Duck) & put out a few bites to see if he'd eat any of it. He took to the Vital & Stella's. I tried mixing a teaspoon of the Vital in his Weruva...but he just picked out the Vital. I've really been trying to stick to one food. But it really scares me when he doesn't eat for 2 days!!!! He's only 6 pounds & I worry that he's going to get sick If he refuses to eat his food for 2 days...should I try to stick with the same food that he's been refusing? How long should I wait to see if he'll eat again? This eating thing has been really difficult - and expensive. What am I doing wrong?

we all worry about our babies. it is hard to see them not eating. is there one particular food you have right now that he seems to really like? do you schedule feed or free feed? sometimes schedule feeding works better for picky eaters. try just feeding at a scheduled time once per day for a few days with his favorite food and see how he does.. maybe if can work up his appetite he will start eating better. | |

I feed him 3 times a day - but I'm thinking that maybe I should cut it down to 2 times. Sometimes he won't eat his afternoon meal. And you're right...maybe he will work up an appetite if I decrease the number of times I feed him. I'll definitely try that. Thanks I'm also concerned about finding a food that he will like...and then realizing that it's not a good fit for him. He's been gassy & his poop is semi-soft. I'm hoping that's just because of the sudden change in food - and not the food itself. Maybe I'll try giving him Weruva for his evening meal & see if it helps his tummy? (If he eats it.) Or should I just go with the Vital & wait for his system to adjust?

| I would still do at least 2 feedings per day, especially with such a small dog. You have received quite a bit of good advice already, but I sure wouldn't want him to go a whole day or more without eating something. You will just have to keep working with him until you come up with something that works.

| Atticus will eat FreshPet Select in the morning, another bowl in the afternooon and eat BlueBuffalo dry kibble at night. We tried giving him just BlueBuffalo but he wouldn't eat it in the mornings. I would do whatever you felt right, but if he didn't eat then I would give him what he wanted.

| As a quick follow up... First of all, thank you all for your help & feedback. Yoshi decided that he didn't want to eat the FreshPet Vital anymore He's quirky like that. I suppose I can use the little nuggets as treats for him & my Lab. I've made a decision to stick with the Stella & Chewy's freeze-dried. That's it. I'm not changing his food anymore! It seems like a great company, I'm happy with the ingredients & I've heard a lot of great feedback about Stella's. I also love the way it's so convenient to feed...no measuring cups, nothing to refrigerate, no thawing. That makes my life so much easier! I bought one chicken & one beef 6 oz bag & figured I'd rotate between flavors when he decides he's bored with the food. I'll get other flavors as he gets accustomed to the Stella's. Also, the owner of the shop where I buy my food told me that it really isn't necessary to rehydrate the patties. So I've been breaking them up & feeding them dry. He likes them much better this way! He gobbles it up & licks the plate clean! Yay! I was a little concerned that he might not get enough water if I didn't rehydrate. So I put a piece of blue painter's tape on his fountain so I could check the water levels. So far, so good. He's definitely drinking enough. Sorry for the looong post. But I'm sure some of you know how absolutely THRILLED I am that I have finally found a good food that BOTH of us can agree on!

Zachary's Mom Donating Member | My 2 year old Japanese Chin, Yoshi is VERY picky. Also very spoiled I am afraid to say. She only eats wet food because of a SEVERE underbite....she can't eat dry food. Addiction Dehydrated, Stella and Chewy's and Grandma Lucy's are the ones she likes the best. She isn't thrilled with canned no matter how good quality it is. If there is no problem with tummy issures, I would get several kinds of food and alternate each day which is what I do. Luckily Yoshi has a cast iron stomach, just like her half brother, Yumble.
