| Wellness Core (original), Wilderness or Acana? Which one of these should I feed my Lexi? She's 4lbs (if that even helps judge which food to get) She's not a picky eater at all so I'm not worried about which one she likes the best. I do know that she doesn't like the Honest Kitchen though...she threw up after eating it...twice! I'm asking out of personal preferences, etc. Please tell me why you like it best it'll help me greatly!

| I forgot to say that I narrowed it down to these 3 due to Dog Food Reviews and Ratings | Dog Food Advisor

| Well, it depends on what you are looking for, mainly. They're all fairly similar ingredient wise... the guaranteed analysis' are pretty similar. So then it comes down to choosing your company. Wellness has a formula or two manufactured by Diamond which some are uncomfortable with. Most of their food is made at Old Mother Hubbard though I think. I like Wellness personally, but never had luck with it. Gave Jackson goopy ears and lots of poo. Blue Buffalo is another hit-or-miss, IME. Some love it and do really well on it... I often read of gas or GI issues with BB. Their food is made in like 5 different manufacturing facilities. I use Acana and really like it. We've often tried others and then we always go back to Acana. I like their company for the most part... they are all made in their own facility, I like their customer service, and their ingredients. Most of all, my dog loves it and does very well on it. 2-3 small firm poops a day, hardly any eye goop/boogers, his coat is always soft and shiny, teeth look good, digestion is great, etc. Just our experience, but every dog is different and will do well on different things.

| Of those choices, I would try Acana first. I would feel more comfortable with it because it is made in Champion's own facilities instead of having manufacturing contracted out to other larger companies like many other companies do.

| Mine are all on FROMM. I like mine on Chicken forumulas personally. So they eat Chicken a la Veg. I also give them Honest Kitchen's Force as a topper. Mine don't have grain issues but I hear great things about their Grain-free foods. I may try the Surf n' Turf or Game Bird next since my Golden has hot spot issue- Not food related. It won't hurt to try.

| I've always been a fan of Blue Buffalo. I tried many different foods with Sasha but Blue Buffalo Wilderness is what worked best for her. I rotate between all the varieties. You do have to be careful though. I do like recommending the food however like others have stated not all dogs can tolerate BB. It's a very rich food and can cause stomach upset to some dogs or just make them very gassy. Our 3 month old new addition to the family is on BB Puppy right now and does splendid on it as well which I'm hoping continues as he continues to grow. As for the others, Wellness Core I actually never used but Acana I have in the past. The first time I tried it, Sasha really really enjoyed it. The second time she ate it for a few days and then wanted nothing to do with it. That's when I decided to switch back to BB and shes been doing great ever since aside from beginning to add canned food to her diet a few months ago. |
