| Acana Wild Prairie? I have been thinking about trying Acana Wild Prairie (chicken based grain free) for my dogs. Due to cost, this would be the only Acana formula that I would be able to use (or maybe the Chicken and Burbank Potato). Does anyone have any experience or opinions of the Acana Wild Prairie food that they can share with me? Currently feeding Fromm 4-Star (grain inclusive) foods but have always wanted to try Acana.

So far i have tried the acana pacifica , and now the grasslands. As far as the cost there is only $1 difference between varietys, here anyway.. If you do switch to the acana i would go very slowly . It is rich and can be too much for some dogs...

| I'm interested in this too! Acana will probably be next in our rotation after Toki has had a few bags of the grain-free Fromm. I was actually just looking for a chicken-based formula and wondering about why Fromm doesn't have a grain-free chicken-based formula (they certainly have chicken products like fat and cartilage in most of their recipes!). Fromm is so affordable! I wish they had a grain-free chicken recipe though! |

| Champion Foods/ Acana is an excellent kibble. I used to feed mine Grasslands & they were doing very well on it. I just chose to change their food due to the kibble size being so large & it was a hassle for me to cut it up...even if cut up, they (esp Momo bc he has tiny teeth) had a hard time chewing the dense kibble. Plus, Turbo is allergic to pumpkin.

| I would be buying the large bag since I have 4 dogs, one of which is a 90 lb yellow lab. I feed all my dogs the same food. The price difference is pretty big on the large bags. The Wild Prairie is the cheapest, then the next one is Pacifica which is almost $10 a bag more. I didn't realize the kibble size is so large. I don't need tiny kibble, but don't want a very large kibble either. How does the kibble size compare to TOTW or Fromm? I have tried all the Fromm 4-Star grain inclusive foods and the kibble sizes and shapes vary between each formula. I just don't want a huge kibble like the old fashion cheap dog foods (like Purina Dog Chow, Pedigree, etc.). I should probably try a small bag at first to see how it works out before getting a large bag. Maybe I could find someplace near me that has sample packs or trial packs I can try.

http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...duck-pear.html If you look at that thread, Brit posted a couple pictures (post #30) of the Lamb/Apple Acana which is smaller than the grain-free varieties but still much larger than the Fromm. You could always go at some kibble with a rolling pin to break it down to size for your little one. Most of the small pet stores near me sell little sample bags of Acana for like $2.99 so it couldn't hurt to get one.

oh , i understand that . I have a huge dog too. The kibble size of the acana is round and flat and the diamater is less than the size of a dime.. My 7 pound yorkie chews it quite easily...

| We've fed both Prairie and Chicken Burbank Potato- chicken-based foods tend to give Jackson softer/bigger poo though so we stick to the other formulas now. But yes the grain-free's (Wild Prairie, Grasslands, Ranchlands and Pacifica) are a lot bigger than Fromm. Most of Fromm kibble look like tiny cat kibbles to me, lol... They are not like ginormous... but bigger. My friends 4 and 6lb yorkies do absolutely fine eating it. The Chicken & Burbank is a bit larger than the grain-frees, but maybe a bit more flat. Duck & Pear and Lamb & Apple are smaller. But we've always had great results with Acana. He's in great shape, very minimal eye boogers, his hair is shiny and soft, his poop is typically 2x a day and small and formed hehe.

| Unfortunately, I can't give my Yorkie the Acana anymore due to having bloody stools from it. |

| Acana Kibble Riley has been on Acana since he was about 10 months old...[He turned 2 in May] I had him on Orijen when he was about 7 months and it was a little too rich for him, so I switched him to Acana. He Loves his Acana Kibble and gobbles it right up.... I will sometimes chop up a few green beans to mix in with it... but other times, he gobbles it up, plain and really Thrives on it. I have been feeding Nature's Variery frozen premade raw and Acana/Kibble the other meal... sometimes I will do raw both meals, sometimes the kibble both meals... it just depends.... that is what I have found that he does best on. We just finished a bag of Acana/Pacifica and I just got a bag of the Acana/Wild Prairie today. I have tried a couple of other kibble, but Always come back to Acana. Because he is doing so well on it, I won't even think about switching unless he starts having issues with it. Last edited by RileyDC; 07-07-2012 at 04:04 PM. |

Your lucky that your dog hasn't had any issues with Acana. My Vet doesn't want me to use it and I am back to using his old food (Pro-Plan) since he never had bloody stools from it, just wouldn't eat after a while or very few kibbles. I don't want to take the food back thinking a dog could come around and I could feed him some (which has happened when my neighbor brought over a stray he found).

| The store doesn't have sample packs of Acana. I ended up getting a bag of Hi-tek Naturals Grain Free to try. I also got a small bag of Nature's Variety Raw Medallions to try. I think I may try doing a combination of kibble and raw.
