| Issues with Acana Dog Food Last week, I had to take my Yorkie to the Vet since he had blood in his stool. I only switched him to Acana perhaps like 3 weeks ago, but I only put in 12-14 kibbles into his old food which he ate fine then. So I did notice his stool looked a brownish-red then but it turn to bloody-red. The Vet put him on Science Diet W/D and Saturday I was suppose to mix in his new dry with it, which is Acana. He ate fine then with his new food. Today has been a different story. He would not touch the dry food at all, only the wet and hardly much of that this morning. I had put the wet in the middle and the dry around. Someone told me that they mix the dry with the wet, so I tried that tonight and he hardly touched it and picked out a few of the dry. I tried the Acana dry, but he would touch it. I added warm water and still wouldn't touch it. So then I gave him a buffet of his new food Acana, Natural Balance Ultra, Natural Variety’s Prairie and a scoop of the wet Science Diet W/D. I only gave him a small amount of each dry. I have a small sample bag of the Natural Balance Ultra and Natural Variety Prairie. He gulped down the wet and left the dry. Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated. |

oh poor thing, hope he feels better soon. well , i think maybe you are trying too many different foods at once. i would just stick with the W/D the vet gave you and and mix in a few pieces of the Acana at each meal till he gets used to it. Try warming up the food for a about 5 seconds in the microwave, sometimes that makes it more appealing... good luck

| You are feeding/offering WAY too many foods. No wonder his belly is upset. You seem to have a lot of issues with food, if I remember even from past threads - it may be best to just pick the one he does best on and stick with it. I love Acana and have always had great luck w/ it but maybe it just doesn't work for your dog. I am not a fan of SD however at this point, I'd feed him the W/D for at least a full bag and get his stomach back in order... NO other buffets of other foods or anything.

I agree you are giving way too many foods- I agree with Britt, stick with the W/D till its gone and then pick ONE FOOD.

| Sounds to me he's getting a little spoiled and wants only the wet food now. Hopefully things settle down and he gets back on track. You may end up having to feed him wet food now though. Maybe if only offered the dry food for awhile he will start eating it again. I wouldn't do any more food changes until his tummy issues settle down though.

He's not eating much of the W/D, not even a 1/2 total for the day...or maybe. The Vet called earlier and I need to mix in the old dry (Pro-Plan) to see how he will do. I can't use the Acana since that is what caused the bloody stools. Last night I literally had to spoon feed him to eat a bit more, ridiculous but it worked~!
