Shorty has an intestinal infection My 10 plus year old Shorty, stopped eatiing yesterday and began throwing up yellow foam like vomit. He never throws up so this was a surprise to me. Also he lost all appetite and would have diarrhea as well. He finally ate some cooked white rice last night but evidently threw it up during the night. Being proactive to his health concerns, I rushed him to the vet first thing this morning. I couldn't schedule an actual appointment as the vet had a full day booked, but he was willing to see Shorty in between appointments. I came back 2 hours later to check on him and was told he has an intestinal infection and was given Amoxitabs for the infection and Amforal for the diarrhea. I couldn't actually visit with the vet as he was with another patient. Do any of you guys know about intestinal infections? Can they be cleared up in old dogs? Shorty is a rescue dog we got from the animal shelter 4 years ago and he was old then. We had all of his teeth removed so he only eats soft food. I mentioned to the vet's assistant that we had given him a piece of grilled steak and carrots we had for dinner on Wednesday. She seemed to think he may have gotten sick from that. It was a battle this afternoon to give him his meds. He's isn't hungry anyway and to try to get him to eat his crushed pill in a piece of chicken wasn't easy. Any advice from you Yorkie experts would sure be appreciated... |
