Zachary's Mom Donating Member | Changing Puppy's Food Zachary is 16 weeks old today. The breeder had him on Puppy Chow when we got him which we have kept giving him. His stool is never firm, always a bit soft. Our other 5 dogs, depending on age/health, eat only the best food. The ones that don't have a weight problem eat Origen. I feel that keeping them on good food from the beginning will help prevent health problems in the future. I knew better to try anything like Origen on Zachary. It is too rich. My Japanese Chin eats the puppy food but he has a cast iron stomach. So we bought some Blue Buffalo Small Breed Puppy for Zach. We started out giving him just a few pieces mixed in with his old food. We got up to 1/4-3/4 in about 5 days and he has started having VERY loose poop. He was out in his doggier carrier/purse with George and I today and had a good case of diarrhea....what a mess....two baths in 3 days. Any suggestions on what to feed him? I think Puppy Chow is junk and I hate having him eat it. But, even something like Blue Buffalo, which is NOT at the top of the list, gives him tummy problems. We have had Zachary for about 3 weeks now. Thanks, Louise |

| Blue Buffalo tends to be rich itself. I've heard of lots of gas and GI type issues while dogs are on it. That's not say it's a bad food, some do great on it, but I have just seen that problem a lot with that particular food. So you're not switching around so much -- maybe buy another small bag of puppy chow and gradually begin mixing with something a bit more simple. California Natural has a puppy formula, and is a very simple ingredient list, for example.

| Why not go with Orijen puppy forumala since your other dogs are mostly on it and having positive results? It may or may not be too rich for your pup. I know BB and Wellness are too rich for my golden. My Yorkies did fine on both. But I need and wanted a food they could all eat since none have any medical issues. I feed FROMM and have been very happy with the results

Zachary's Mom Donating Member | Thanks everyone. Just ordered some California Natural Puppy for sensitive stomachs, Chicken. If someone is having tummy problems, Chicken seems to be the best.. They only sell it in speciality stores I found out and the stores here in Houston that carry it aren't anywhere close to me. I will probably get it faster ordering online than driving across the city (lots less stress too). Thanks again....new to this Yorkie thing!! Louise |
