| Raw Food Question So Sasha has been on Primal for almost 2 years now I want to say. There are 2 kinds that she doesn't like. One is the Turkey & Sardine formula (don't blame her there ) and just recently she decided that she didn't like the Duck formula which really surprised me since she'll eat her duck kibble. I know there are several other formulas in Primal but I decided to try something different for variety. I picked up some samples of The Honest Kitchen and tried it out and I can tell she definitely doesn't love it so I think the frozen nuggets/patties are the way to go. She seems to prefer them. The natural food store that I go to to buy the raw just recently started carrying Bravo. From what I can see, it looks like it comes in hamburger patties whereas with Primal, I'm used to nuggets. My plan is to thaw out a patty, cut it up into the appropriate amount and portion it out. Once it has been thawed out though, is it ok to re-freeze the rest or no? With raw, I like to be extra careful. If it can't be re-frozen, how long will raw last in the fridge before it should be thrown away? I only feed Sasha raw at one out of her two meals. (she gets kibble and canned for her other meal) Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

| I have thawed it many times and refrozen. It's fine. It only effects the taste in that you are more likely to get freezer burn etc. My dogs don't mind at all. When I buy the chubs I thaw them and then freeze in mini muffin tins and then once frozen I put in baggies. That way I can take out the little muffins and thaw individually. The chubs are cheaper than the medallions usually. Of course, I also primarily feed PMR. I can leave chicken in the fridge for about a week and it's fine. Other's leave it longer but I usually try to just feed over 3 or 4 days. Also, I have learned that it's best to leave the chicken uncovered. I actually just read that the bacteria that makes chicken smelly thrives when the chicken is covered or in a baggie. When you leave uncovered, it doesn't get smelly. I didn't believe it at first but it really is true. |

| Yes, you can thaw and refreeze it. I have heard that Bravo! is really good stuff. I have only tried Stella & Chewy's.... Nature's Variety.... Answers Raw.... and Primal. Primal has always been my favorite. I bought a Glass Square container that has a glass lid from crate and barrel and I would put about 3 days worth of raw in it to thaw..... Primal's website says: Raw foods will maintain optimum freshness for 3-5 days under refrigeration. Feeding, Transition and Safety for Raw Dog Food Diets |

I tried Nature's Variety with her about 3 years ago and she liked it at first but then lost interest so I weaned away from raw for awhile. Then about 2 years ago, I began reading and hearing about Primal a lot so I figured I would give it a try and there has been success ever since. She can just be a picky eater so I like to give her variety. I picked up some samples of The Honest Kitchen and Sojos but after trying 1 sample bag of The Honest Kitchen I actually think I prefer dealing with the frozen pre-made raw. She didn't really care for it anyways, so I'm going back to Primal and willing to try Bravo which is why I was asking about thawing/re-freezing since it seems to come in chub and patty form. Thanks for your input!

Reaction 2-days after I started feeding him some Primal "Lamb". I spoke with a Primal Rep. [they are Awesome....] and took that bag back and got him the chicken formula. I switched him to Acana and got some ear drops from his vet and got him completely cleared back up. Wanted to get him all clear before I start doing the Primal raw one meal and Acana Kibble the other meal. That is what I was doing this time last year and what he seems to do best on. I just took 2 of the Primal chicken nuggets out of the freezer, this a.m. and put them in the fridge to thaw...for his dindin. I would Love to try Bravo! but haven't been able to find it anywhere in my area..... YT Member "viviansnickers" feeds Bravo! and/or Primal raw and I know she Loves both. Also, YT Member "Wylie's Mom" feeds Primal raw and I believe she puts enough out to thaw for a few days feedings.... This is the container I got.... but it doesn't have the silicone seal... It just has a glass lid. Refrigerator Storage Containers with Silicone Lids in Food Containers, Storage | Crate and Barrel Last edited by RileyDC; 06-01-2012 at 06:03 AM.

| I originally fed Primal but Zoey had eye buggers really bad so I switched to Nature's Variety and she does well on it. I defrost about 4 days worth and have never had a problem with going bad. I feed my maltese the patties - one half per day and they both get veggies for dinner. The only problem is if you don't wash their face after eating the bacteria from the raw grows and their faces smell AWFUL.

| Well, I went to the store where I buy the raw food at today and picked up a bag of Venison Primal and a sample pack of Bravo. There are 3 formulas....chicken, beef and turkey, 1 patty of each. I spoke to the owner and she said it will be fine to thaw it just enough to the point where I'm able to get a knife through it to portion it out and it'll be ok to put back in the freezer afterwards....makes sense, not sure why I wasn't thinking that to begin with. I'm excited to offer her Bravo and I hope she likes it! If she does, I'll be using it in addition to Primal. |

| we take out enough of the stell/chewy chicken patties for the poodle and enough of the vital essentials beef patties for yorkie to thaw the next day to eat. How does everyone warm this up? I have it in plastic baggies in cups soaking in hot water until the temp is good. I don't like using the stove for it will cook and the whole idea is to give raw...but how to warm it? thanks.

I don't warm it up. I just take it right out of the fridge and serve it. I don't even think you're supposed to warm it up at all.
