| bad breath My Nico is 5 months and 3 weeks and for the last 3 days his breath really smells badly. hes loosing his first teeth and his gums are a bit red red. He eats soft food, cooked chicken veg and rice or different kinds of barley buckwheat, sweet potato etc. i read a lot of articles on the internet about puppy breath and i learn that it gets worse when they changing teeth. but can the smell change to the extend that its unbearable? Please if someone knows about any home made solution i will appreciate. i use some herbal extract which is 100 % natural and its for ulcers and infected gums and throat. its to mix with water and gargle. i made a very week solution i dipped the soft tooth brush and i gave him to bite. i know its not going to hurt him. please please any helpful advice??? |

| well i would be careful using human medicines on your puppy. the bad smell is from food getting trapped under the loose teeth. try freezing a wet facecloth and let him chew on that for a few minutes. dont worry about the bad breath that will go away when all his adult teeth come in. if his gums are red and swollen though probably would be a good idea to have the vet check him out. hope he feels better soon |

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | Vet visit!! Bella had 9 baby teeth pulled at the time of her spay that werent even smelly yet but no sense in letting them get infected when she was already under for spay. last month both Bella and Diggy had their first cleaning 8+ pulled and their breath had been horrible and now nothing! Cleared right up! Dental visits are a must with yorkies!

| Mikki has a problem with it as well. And as bad as I hate to say this, I think you need to see a vet. We went in and the vet is recommending a dental for Mikki. Her breath is terrible and he said a dental will help.

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | Its amazing how the bad breath is gone instantly! Not to mention how great both Bella n Digs teeth look! I was a nervous wreck but SO glad I did it. Crazy as it sounds the vet said the bad teeth actually affect their overall health. She said they sometimes act like puppies after and she was right! Mine seem to be more playful and feeling better than ever!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Just because something it 100% natural, it doesn't mean it's safe for dogs. Look at raisons and grapes, they are natural, and many would assume safe, yet they can kill your dog, and you don't even have to give them that much. They damage the liver and death can occur days later. I'm telling you this because everything you give your dog must be investigated to make sure it safe. Many dental products for humans contain artificial sweeteners, which again are deadly to dogs, so that's why human toothpastes should not be use. The good news is what your dog is experiencing is normal for this age, they lose their baby teeth and are growing the adult teeth, the mixture of blood and food that gets in the tooth pockets is nasty, but very temporary. It’s time to get you pup use to tooth brushing, Yorkies are prone to tartar and you must be diligent if you want your dog to keep his teeth. I recommend that your vet pull any remaining baby teeth when you dog is neutered, Yorkies don’t always lose all the baby teeth on the own, and the double row of teeth can cause problems. CET makes a great toothpaste for dogs, much better than the competition.

| I read a thread on YT (I think it was by carmen in nj) about the benefits of parsley for dogs....I'm wondering if that might help combat bad breath, as it does for people (of course once the vet/dental investigation is done...) Just a thought! Sally + Harry x |

| Something weird happened, I gave Sheldon a bath yesterday and what do you know, the bad breath is gone. First I thought the eye buggers but then I realized it could be from the food left over on the hair around his face. He was overdue for his bath but I applied the k9 advantix so I had to wait. I will be washing his face more often. |
