Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | Anyone feed Merrick? I was just wondering about this brand of food. We have Katie Scarlett on TOTW but with all this recall stuff, I just am not comfortable. I did check the bag of food she has and it was not on the recall list, thank goodness. But you just never know and I am a worry wart to begin with. LOL. I think she is just so so about TOTW. She gobbles up fresh fruits and veggies better than anything. We give those as treats...of course steering clear of the one's on the no list. Anyways, I was in Tractor Supply the other day letting her walk around. It rained outside all week and I hate to keep her in, and I noticed that food next to the TOTW. I just thought I'd ask you guys about it. Any pro's/cons? Thanks guys!

| There are people who do and swear by it; but I would never buy anything from a company that has had the many recalls that Merrick's has had. I have heard people say it was "only" for treats....not a good enough excuse for me. Only? ugh....not a chance I would deal with a company like that. Google this: fda recalls merricks Then decide for yourself.

| I feed Evengers white fish and sweet potato their compsny is in Illinois. On their site they have a video on how their food is made. My girls love it and I am not afraid of it being recalled. Some of the foods are made in china I do not trust any food but this one. Linda, Sassy and Patty |

| I think you should look at this before deciding. Tejas Industries Inc. 6/1/10 I'm not sure if they have brought themselves into compliance, but recently they acquired Castor and Pollux as well. Merrick Acquires Castor & Pollux

| I wouldn't trust Merrick any more than I'd trust Diamond, to be honest. Also, in 2003, some of the Go! formulas were made at the Merrick plant that killed some dogs. I actually really like Petcurean foods though, and they immediately changed and stopped using them after this incident and have not an issue since. http://www.itchmoforums.com/news-rec...l-t6037.0.html Comparable ingredients and cost to TOTW... check out Earthborn. Made by Midwestern Pet Foods. Also, Precise and Nutrisource/Pure Vita offer some nice options, from small family owned companies who produce their own food in-house in the USA and never had a recall. Lotus also has their own plant, Champion (Acana/Orijen) and Fromm.

I reached the point where I was so concerned about all the negative/conflicting reviews that I made the switch, as I felt happier knowing what was going into Harry's 'little (!!) tummy.... He is so much happier - the good fruits and veggies can be combined in that Katie Scarlett loves - and you'd know exactly where her food is actually coming from. Just a thought.... | I would not go with a diamond food, Merrick, Nutro or Purina. Purina is the one who owns waggin train chicken treats that are killing and making lots of sick so please don't support them. We are on Blue Buffalo for now but I do plan on doing home cooking at some point.
