YorkieTalk Newbie! | Yorkie will NOT eat dog food!! HELP!! Gizmo, my 18 month old yorkie will not eat his dog food !! He is so picky he pushes the bowl of dog food away with his teeth half way across The room. Ever since we got him he's been picky! That's when we started boiling him chicken , started pushing that away..beef and rice , pushed that away. Mixing eggs in with his kibble , homemade dog food, nothing! We have been just giving him kibble with a little cheese sprinkled on top he eats only the cheese with little kibble this has been going on for 4 days ! I hate it im about to cave and just give him chicken ! It makes me nervous he isn't getting proper nutrition ! Someone help , tell me ur yorkie baby is picky also |

| I think that alot of yorkies are like this. Mine gets chic n rice mixed with kibble in the morning and just kibble at night. Unless she is REALLY hungry, she will not eat the kibble at night unless someone, usually me, hands her the first 2 or 3 pieces then suddenly she wants what is in the bowl. The thing that I have learned is keep it simple and dont offer tomany wonderful things beyond the kibble. |

YT 1000 Club Member | My Romeo stopped eating his kibble two weeks after I brought him home. I gave him boiled pasta and he gobbled it right up. I would put just a tiny bit of wet food with the pasta and gradually increased the amount. Well this devil was too smart for that and eventually stopped eating again! Believe me it's trial an error even to this day almost 3 years later. He eats NO dog food and every meal is prepared fresh (oh btw, if I refrigerate and reheat he won't eat that either)...Go figure but he has me well trained.

| My yorkie is 1 year old and always gobbled up his food, until...I started giving his some dog treats. Now he only wants those and wont eat his kibble unless he is starving. He also doesn't drink his water (only give him about 6-8 oz a day) Do I have to stop the treats alltogether? |

| Try Stella's and Chewys. It's pricey but they have to eat! |

YT 2000 Club Member | I mix a little wet food with the dry and add a tiny bit of water for gravy. My Yorkies gobble it up. These Yorkies are real smart dogs. If I tell JoJo to go get his Squiddo toy, he gets it. Now if he is that smart, then he can manipulate me into giving him the food he wants. I won't do that. He gets his Blue Buffalo food the way I fix it and if he is hungry he will eat it. It is like kids. They will eat junk food if you give it to them. Be firm. Give him only nutritious food. See the vet if your dog still doesn't eat. Sandy Simpson |

| Yorkies are picky in general..not sure why..genetics I guess? lol...Mine (6 yrs old now) started out with kibble, then homecooking after a year then we moved to canned food and then raw and he is now on homecooked food and will probably stay on that for the rest of his life as he does so well on it and with buying Preference (made by Honest Kitchen), I don't have to worry too too much about balancing his food. Made it all easier but he does get some Salmon Oil, Vitamin E and Calcium once every few days to complete the nutrition profile. He gets on rotation, chicken which is his favourite, beef, pink salmon, sardine with his Preference veggie base mix and I also put in some blueberries, pineapple when I do buy them. I just interchange the Preference base with barley/rice/millet cooked in broth/chicken soup say maybe once every 10 days so that he doesn't get bored with it. It took me years, 6 to be exact to find a good diet for him that he does well on and likes and I will be sticking to that from now on! And...he has always been picky from the start.....
