| Can Lily be in heat again already??? Hi. Lily was in heat for the first time at 7 months...it lasted around 22 days. She is now 10 months old and I noticed her licking herself a lot the last few days and then today I saw some drops of blood on the floor. I took a look and she looks pretty swollen and I do see a bit of blood. Could she be in heat again already? Is this something I should be worried about? Has anyone else had this happen with their baby??? Thanks to anyone with some insight here. |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I would get her to the vet. A Maltese foster came into heat before I could get her spayed. After she was out of heat, I scheduled her spay for a month away, before that appointment she came into heat again. It was pyometra, a life-threatening uterine infection.

| Positive update!!! Hi, Just wanted to thank you guys again for your replies... Thankfully everything is okay with Lily and she is definitely just in heat again. The vet said it sometimes happens after first heat that the second one is close behind and then only becomes regular from then on. Anyway, Back to the beginning ...I called the vet and asked her if she thought Lily could be in heat again already and she said that it was unlikely but possible, but that I should bring her in immediately... Like drop what I was doing in bring her in immediately (she thought what you both did as well and didn't want to take any chances). Lily had no temp, was alert and happy and her girl doggie parts looked as if she was in heat, but to be sure she ran blood tests, took a swab of the discharge and both came out perfectly clean. I brought her in again the next day and she again did a swab and again it came out clean, but she could see that the cells were changing to show that she was almost at the height of her heat. Thankfully all is well and we have scheduled her spaying for 6 weeks from now so that we will not have to worry about her getting pyometra. I looked it up on the internet and it is very scary!!! Couldn't believe it when I read that almost 25% of all unspayed dogs get it! Wow! Thanks, thanks, thanks for the heads up...we were lucky that she wasn't sick but I wouldn't have even thought of bringing her in and had it been something - I don't even want to think about it!!! |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Glad to hear she is okay! I didn't want to alarm you unnecessarily but, as you're aware of now, pyometra is not something you can just wait and see about after a few days. Thanks for updating this thread and again...wonderful news that Lily is all good!
