| In grown claw... So Corky's mom showed me a small area on corky's leg.. His "claw" was ingrown... I am upset because he just went in to see his vet, and she did not see it. But I will not blame her, because I did not see it either. He was limping, my daughter noticed he was licking which made her look. Ok the point of my post... I took the doggie clippers and clipped it.... Needless to say he did not like that. He took off running..... There was a little blood Not from the quick, but from where the nail dug in. I sprayed antiseptic and wrapped it in doggie bandage. It was not very puffy, not infected. Just a little red. Thoughts? |

| If it was just at the skin & not in the skin then it should be Ok otherwise I would be making a vet visit, point it out to the vet that she missed it & they will probably not charge you another office visit. |

| I would talk to your vet. Mikki had her dew claws when we got her. I am assuming you are talking about the dew claws? Anyway, my vet recommended having them removed because of the risk of this very thing. So I had hers removed. Maybe something to think about and also to see if your vet recommends it.

| I'm learning something new. I never even heard of "dew claws" until now. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Most breeders remove them. I would not support a breeder who didn't remove them. They can easily be torn off which is dangerous and painful.

| That was my vets feelings too. We got Mikki at a year old and my vet was surprised that hers had not been removed. When I got her fixed, he took off the dew claws as well. I didn't know much about them but he did say they could cause her problems so of course we removed them.

| And I would think that the recovery is easier on them when they are pups. I know that the dew claw area bothered Mikki much more than the spay.

| Mya has them still! Is 18 weeks too late? Do I tell the groomer to trim or something or can I do it myself. |

| I am not sure about cutting them. I would discuss with my vet if you want them removed.

| She hasn't shown any discomfort from them. I never knew she had claws there until I checked today (after doing a research on it). If I get them trimmed, she would be fine to keep them, right? |

| Well my vet recommended getting rid of them. He talked about them getting caught on stuff and tearing. Also then talked about infections. I think you should talk to your vet and see what they recommend.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Keeping it trimmed will help a lot, it's much less likely to get caught on things. Ask your vet about it, it no longer is simple surgery it has to be done the first few days and if done later the dog has to be under anesthesia. As BabyGirl Rosie says, it's usually harder on them then the spay surgery, but that's a good time to do it, if your vet thinks it should be done.

| My mom has a beagle that constantly has her dew claw grow in to paw (they grow faster then weeds) when it brakes the skin the vet gave my mom antibiotics, a paw soak and a spray to spray on the paw. Paws can get very dirty and germy so its important to keep it clean so they don't get an infection.
