| Lyme disease vaccination question Tonight Toby & Speedy got their first ever Lyme disease vaccination. The vet said they need to come back in three weeks for a booster shot and then annually for a booster. Is it normal to get a booster shot three weeks after getting the initial Lyme disease shot?

| Does anyone know the answer to my question? If a booster really isn't needed, I'm going to cancel the booster appointments. That would cost yet another $62!

| Yes, that is normal with these types of vaccines.

| Yup, it's normal for those kinds, which is why I don't do them. Is there a reason your pups are getting the lymes vaccine?

| It's required for any vaccine to be effective. Just like puppy shots and Rabies, all are given in the first year then boostered at one year. I am unsure of the time between the initial vaccine and the booster, 2-3 weeks seems a bit too soon to me.

| Yes Brit, we do a lot of camping in the spring, summer and fall and there are lots of ticks out in the middle of nowhere where we go. I heard they are supposed to be bad this year.

| Gotcha. You gotta do what you and your vet feel is best for your pup of course! We don't get it. Jax tested positive for lymes after coming up limping, so he was actually showing symptoms. He was treated very easily and back to normal within a day of meds (that were not very expensive). His lyme test is now negative and I keep him on either advantix and frontline all year, which I feel is enough prevention. Our vet does not recommend the lymes vaccine for us, especially since people are trying to link the vaccine to possible kidney problems and sometimes even symptoms that make it look like they have Lyme's Disease. He's outside every day and in woods, near lots of deer, tall grass, camping, etc. Too many unanswered questions about lymes vaccine for my liking and doesn't cover all strains of tick diseases etc. I like these links: 01 Lyme Disease - VeterinaryPartner.com - a VIN company! Dr. Schoen–Lyme Disease: Fact from Fiction http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-not-give.html Just as an FYI for future reference.
