Bella will be Spayed on April 13th I hate this! I am already having a nervous breakdown. Once Bella learned to go down our patio steps she has never had an accident in the house or used potty pads. I always leave a potty pad by the door just in case, but she always waits until I get home and goes outside. When she has her surgery, I don't know what to do. Should I carry her downstairs to go potty or should I make her use the potty pads? I don't want her confused since she never goes in the house anymore at all. Bella has never been kenneled, she has one under my desk at work that she will sleep in with the door open. She also has one at home she never slept in so we took it out of the house. She has a little furry cat bed she loves when we are not home and she sleeps on my bed at night. Should I try to kennel her after the surgery or just let her out...she loves to jump up on the back of my couch to look out the window...I am afraid she will try to do this and hurt herself... She is having the laser surgery and I know she won't tolerate a collar, I was wondering what I should do if she tries to mess with her stitches... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!! I am so afraid for her!

Well , she is mostly definetly going to be in a kennel during her stay at the vet so you get her used to starting now. You say she is used to going in just not with the door closed so several times a day just practice with her by throwing a treat in while she is eating it close the door for a second if she is quiet leave it for a few more seconds then let her out. Just keep practing till she will stay longer and longer. Then practice leaving the room. Hopefully she will be used before her vet appt...

She made it! She was ordered to wear an e collar for which was never going to happen. So I told my Vet (which is a friend of mine) I was going to try the onsie's and if she messed with anything I would force her to wear the collar. Fortunately, we have not had any issues. She has to wear the onsie for 14 days! Bella was never one to wear clothes, but I said by the end of 14 days...she will want to wear them all the time! She is so sweet!

I learned a lot during this process and it was an experience. I was so worried and had so many questions! It is scary to feel so unsure! Bella had her surgery at about 9:00 am and I picked her up at about 3:00 pm. She was really out of it. So we took a fuzzy blanket and put a potty pad under it just in case she had an accident or was sick. I finally got her to take a little honey water by 5:00 and offered her more whenever she was alert. I had opted for the full IV for her so I was not too worried about dehydration. The VET office said we should try to have her eating and drinking by evening...this was not happening. I did take her out in the early evening and she pee'd. She slept until about 2:30 am and then was restless so I took her outside and she pee'd again. When I brought her in she drank a little water but would not eat her food so I made her a scrambled egg which she snarfed down. She went right back to sleep and was restless again by 6:30 so I took her out...she had a hard time pooping but tried and did a little. She was hungry and ate another scrambled egg! Sheesh! I think she would not eat her food because they also pulled teeth (I take an egg white and about 1/2 the yolk and scramble it) She was still pretty out of it on Saturday and slept a lot. She did really good but would only eat eggs....so that is what she got. Today, she is doing much better. She wants to jump off the couch all time! It is hard to keep her settled. It is going to be a long process trying to keep her settled and make her be on a leash for 14 days!! She likes to be independent!

| Happy to hear Bella is doing good, she looks so sweet in her onesie. My girls never wore an ecollar or onesie and they did great with their spay.

She is 6lbs! We have her in 0-5lb onsies we got at Walmart. They are so cute! @Susan Lynn - REALLY! My Vet is insistent that I keep it covered. I am thinking since she does not mind wearing them right now, I will leave it on. I am thinking in a couple more days...she is going to have a fit! I think if I take them off when I am around her to monitor how she does it should be fine. Her incision looks really good. The Vet just said they are at such a risk of infection if they lick it or they will actully open up the incision. Yikes! Since Bella does not seem interested in the area at all, I will play it be ear and decide how long based on Bella. I know my Vet is being cautious because many dogs will mess with their incisions. She is still a lazy little puppy today...
