Yorkie Yakker | different personality when in season My 4 yr.old yorkie is in season (first time since I've had her) and her whole personality has changed since she began. She has become very fearful, doesn't want to eat, and just mopes around the house. The previous owners bred her twice and both times her puppy died. The previous owners were breeders. Is this normal behavior for a female in season? I'm very new to this as you can tell. I want to have her feel secure and happy, but just don't know why she's doing this. HELP!! |

| Are you going to have her spayed or are you going to breed her which doesnt sound like a good idea with her track record of losing pups? My quess is its her hormones. My cats would always act different when they were in heat. They are spayed not thankfully and we dont go through it anymore

| Have her spayed and you will no longer have the problem.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Oh poor little thing. Losing a pup is very hard on the mother. I've talked to breeders about this and they say the mother is very aware of losing a pup and is very depressed by it. I think all females might have some changes, but this sounds so much worse. Maybe she associates this time with being pregnant? Glad you’re getting her fixed, and hope you can spoil her rotten, she deserves it.

Yorkie Yakker | Thanks so much. She has been slightly fearful since I got her. At the breeders it was better than most I've seen, but still she was kept in a wire cage. She has a very meek personality (unless she thinks she is defending me!). I appreciate everyone who has answered. I just try to show her a lot of love. |

| Tallulah was like this once. It was a uterine infection. The doctor put her on antibiotics and doggy tylenol and she perked up pretty quick. I feel like a hypocrite telling you to spay your dog, as I haven't, but I have my reasons for not that don't consist of breeding...

Yorkie Yakker | Hi Tallulah Bee, Thanks for your help. Don't feel bad about spaying. In my case I completely agree. Dolly (my yorkie) has had enough with all she's been through! I know that spaying her is best. |

| I hope the best for your girl! If it's the hormones and she feels sad, it's awful... |
