Default R U using Allergy Meds? Read this

My Miss Mini is going to be 7 in June of this year. She did not always have allergies, they started about 3 years ago. Suddenly and without mercy. My baby was covered in red spots that eventually always became sores that became staph infections...red eyes, red ears, and intense itching. She could be clear one minute and raging red the next. Endless steroids, antibiotics, and allergy meds....(not to mention my helpless anxiety, her discomfort, and both our sleepless nights).

Untillll - Varl allergy testing. The vet draws blood and sends it to the Varl laboratories. The testing they do is determined by the region that you live in since most allergies are environmental. Testing also includes household allergens.

The positive (no false positives or negatives) allergens are rated on a scale of the highest concentrations. From these positives, a serum is specially made for your pet and an injection schedule planned. It is important to be tenacious and do the schedule exactly as planned. Keep a journal each day until you reach a point that you have it "balanced" and your pet is mostly allergy free.

Miss Mini has had very few setbacks, and the plan was to eventually have an every 3 week injection but because Miss Mini's allergies are so bad we are on a every 2 week maintenance plan. We have been on this for almost a year now and I can honestly say with all the tweaking - it has been a miracle for her. Where Miss Mini had weeks and months of suffering she now has one or two per year breakouts, which should eventually be less to none. The breakouts she has had have been minor.

The serum is not full of drugs rather it is desensitizing to the triggering allergens. The testing was under $500 dollars, and the report was lengthy and I received a copy. The maintenance serum I purchase twice a year for under $200.

Its not a cure all yet but it is a 90-95% improvement. I will be hitting the 1 year mark this year and am hoping that we are allergy free.

They also have a food test that can be performed, I am not overly familiar with it but am planning to have it done next month.

This past weekend Mini had a major allergy reaction when I forgot to tell the new groomer to use hypoallergenic only products. I'm not sure what she used all I know is that Miss Mini had a horrible reaction that required immediate vet intervention. I don't think all things can be prevented, this I blame myself for and feel awful. Miss Mini is now wearing the "cone of shame" and receiving eye drops until Sunday.

I will say that having Miss Mini off all the allergy drugs has made a big difference in her life. I strongly recommend anyone to try this, it his been a godsend for us. Miss Mini suffered immensely during these attacks and I almost thought it would end her life. I am grateful for VARL.

also: Very Important, do not be intimidated by the injections, you can be trained to do them, they are very simple and honestly, Miss Mini looks forward to them because she gets a special treat afterwards! The injections are painles and simple.

Great information, I wonder if this could be kept in the library? Maybe send a link to Ann and see what she thinks? So many people here I'm sure will be interested and it sounds like such a great alternative to pills.

Just a note they have to be off steroids and antihistamines for 12 weeks before doing the blood testing.

Did you click the link? Did you research? I am well versed in the allergy field and with this product. I had Miss Mini tested 2ce. First by my vet than an allergist, why? because I did not like the thought of giving her injections, Miss Mini was tested both with and without steroids or meds in her system. Both resulted in the same exact to the very T results. I hardly think VARL could make this claim if it were not true. Again, this is not a skin test it is a blood test..they are not just trying to determine what the allergies are rather they determine what, how high of a trigger and then produce a serum to desensitize. My Vet actually was also well versed and educated on the product. My allergist thought I was wasting my money, but to give me peace of mind....

I was not trying to argue with you, not sure why you took it personal. I am basing my statements on proven facts and information from the laboratory, my vet and a seperate allergist.

I nearly put my dog to sleep because of her suffering, this product saved her life, do you not think that I shouldn't share my pups success or that others shouldn't try it? My Mini was on steroids ALL THE TIME, nasty meds all the time and that didn't always help...this testing and the injections are just short of miraculous, 10 months in to therapy.

I can't believe that you are telling me that VARL my vet and allergist are all liars...Its one thing to disagree...Well Miss Mini disagrees with you!

Never said any one was a liar. I said my vet who I trust said she would have to be off steroids for 12 weeks and I know she is not just making that up. Are you calling my vet a liar? I understand you sharing your pets success I am just adding information my vet told me. Had you posted the link before hand I would have known to ask more questions then I did. But if this is a new thing thing some vets may not know about it or may not think there is enough science behind it or something. I know it is a blood test. I still don't get how the blood would react right if there are steroids in the blood that is supposed to keep it from reacting. I two am very interested in this testing because we just found out Callie dosent do well on steroids but i really don't think my vet is lying to me she either dosent yet know about this testing or feels it is to new or dosent have the science to back it up yet.

It says this on the site:

Quote:
Submit Serum

Veterinarians may request for their clinics free sample submission package which includes Order Forms, plastic serum vials, postage-paid sample mailers for mailing in serum sample - for USA mailing only.

3 - 5 ml of serum sample are needed for a complete regional environmental and food allergy tests. No cold pack is required for mailing the sample.

You do not need to withdraw patients from much-needed corticosteroids or antihistamines before drawing the blood sample. VARL Liquid Gold has the technology to isolate allergen-specific IgE antibodies which are present in the patient serum without interference from nebulous, non-specific IgE antibodies.

Hemolysed and lipemic serum samples are acceptable and will not interfer with analyses.

SUBMIT SERUM

I know if my dog had bad allergies, I certainly would want to check this out.

Ok, I guess I misinterpreted your response. I am also passionate about allergies and dogs, with that said...I will also include in my information that there is an 85% chance it will work for any pet. Obviously some animals have such compromised systems that not even this would work; however, Miss Mini suffered months on end and just when there seemed to be no hope in sight...Varl changed her life. Miss Mini has been on it for 10 months, and has only had to have steroids 2ce and for short periods. I really think it was more of a preventative measure and that next time I will ask for antibiotics only and see how that works...if there is a next time!

Varl has a website geared for vets WWW.VARLALLERGY.COM, It includes a brochure with some great information!

Three of my four have had Fall allergies for the past two years. They simply drive themselves and all of us batty with all of the insane itching. I must find some thing to relive their frustration and mine.

Thank you for the information.
