| Shots? Knox is abot 2.5 years old, about 5.5 lbs. Last February, I had all of his shots. At that time I was hanging around this forum a lot. People were suggesting that after your yorkie has its first round of shots, it's not necessary and could even be dangerous to keep getting all of the recommended shots annually. I have an appointment with the vet next week. I told her last year that next year I would probably only want to have his rabies shot. She seemed perfectly cool with that. Is that still the prevailing thought about shots? Last edited by volumnus; 02-18-2012 at 04:47 PM. |

| Yes; over-vaccinating/vaccinating yearly is NOT necessary. In fact most vets follow the AAHA protocol of every 3 years now, which is still too much, but better than every year, IMO. Rabies is required by law in most places every 3 years. So I will continue to get rabies. Check out this recent thread: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-not-give.html

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Just to be safe, you could do a titers test to see if Knox has his immunities. Here's more information. Vaccination Schedule Recommendations For Dogs

| Sorry. Meant "Thanks". I was typing on my phone. I thought the law stated dogs needed their rabies shot every year. I would rather hold off even on the rabies shot then if possible. Every three years sounds a lot better to me. He's as healthy as a little horse. I feed him TOTW, and I walk him about a mile a day unless it rains, which has been a lot lately. Our only problem is he marks in the house when I'm not looking. I haven't actually witnessed him pee on anything in probably a year, but he's a sneaky little devil. |

| I think TN law is every 3 years for rabies, but I would double check state rabies laws online. MS law states every 3, even says not to give yearly, but I continue to get yearly reminders from my vet.
