| Cerenia for car sickness... Has anyone used this for their baby? Ian vomits almost every time he goes for a ride. It's weird, but when my husband drives, and I hold him, he doesn't. It only happenens when he is sitting and restrained in his car seat. His vet prescribed 2 pills to be given 1-2 hours prior to riding. I was thinking about giving him 1, or maybe 1/2 to see how he does. I googled it, and it appears to be effective. I haven't given him any yet. I wanted to get your opinion. Thanks!

| Do you know if she gives her silky two pills, or less? Ian's vet said to give two. Ian weighs almost 10 lbs. I was thinking of starting out with less to see if that helped.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | Can he see out the window when he's in your lap or in his carseat? Is his carseat in the front or back seat? Not being able to physically see where he is going can cause carsickness. Also being in the backseat vs front seat can also cause it for some reason. I haven't given Cerenia to my dog but when I was a vet tech I remember the vet prescribed it for motion sickness and acute vomiting. Worked like a charge with no ill effects.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | I just looked up the dosage for Cerenia in my notebook i carried while a tech. The dosage for motion sickness is higher then the dosage for acute vomiting so if you only give 1/2 or 1 pill then it probably won't work. For a 10 lb dog, he should be getting 2 24mg tablets two hours before traveling. He should also be fasted 1 hour before given the tablet for it to be most effective. So a total of 3 hours preparation for traveling. LOL

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I have used Cerenia for car sickness a couple of times when we are going on a long drive. It has worked like a charm for Taycie. I love it!

The vet only gave him 4 pills with two refills.

| That's good to know!! Was your baby eventually able to ride without taking the med, or is this a life-long process? I don't want to over-medicate.

| [quote=kalina82;3800443]Yes, I know, but is it still effective on the fourth day after the second set of pills, for example? Does it have residual effects? We travel a lot with Ian, and I wish there was something I could do for him without giving him meds.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | [quote=Princes mom;3800450]no, by day four it would be out of his system. I looked up cerenia's half life and its 5.47 hrs. So it may last for 3 days but not 4. I'd ask the vet how many days you have to wait after the 2 consecutive dosage days before you can give it again.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | Your welcome! Have you tried anything else to help with motion sickness? i know some people have used dramamine and rescue remedy with success. There is also the Thundershirt anxiety wrap. I use it on Morgan for thunderstorms and fireworks. they sell them at petco and petsmart now too.
