| When to give treats? It has been over ten years since My Dee Dee was a puppy. I lost her and my husband a month apart. My son got me a new yorkie, BJ. She weighs 1lb.9 ouces and will be 3 months old the 29th of January. My son brought her some treats from his Vet. I asked mine about giving them to her. I don't want to upset her stomach or give her diareha. He said he can't guarantee since she is so small. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. My friend gave me tiny colored milk bones but I don't know what to do. She eats wet food and dry Puppy Chow both and gained 4 ounces since we got her at 7 weeks. Any thoughts? |

| She's a tiny little girl. Yes, use TINY treats. I like Zuke's and still break them in half (3 calories per treat). I also like the soft Buddy Biscuits and break them up easily. My boy is 16lbs but I still make them very tiny. I use treats while training, which for us, occurs at least 5 days a week. But he gets a chicken jerky strip every night before bed (I only buy the kind made in the USA - don't buy chicken jerky from China!) But it's always very tiny pieces as to not fill him up and keep him interested in working. I don't really like milkbones, dog chow, etc, very much due to the ingredients and the recalls that have been involved. But you can do your own research if you'd like to find out more about that. Good luck! I'd love to see pics of your baby. Oh, as for growth, sounds normal. My boy is bigger so it's hard to compare, but he was 6lbs at 12 weeks, 8lbs at 18 weeks, 12lbs by 6 months, and now 16lbs at 3yrs old.

| Thank You The breeder started her on the soft food when she weaned her. She has a tiny mouth and teeth but loves to chomp on the hard food. It is Purina Beneful for Puppies. Comes in little pieces and different colors. They must taste different because she sorts through them and picks ones she likes to eat first. The Vet suggested Iams and gave me a large promotional box but then I know how that goes with salesmen at vets and doctors offices.I don't know if she would eat anything else now and she seems to be doing well. The treats from my sons Vet are mostly chicken, small and moist but I only want for when I start to train her. I ask everyone what they feed their dog and come up with many different answers. Thanks for your reply. I wish they gave a tiny bag of sample to let your dog try lol. They give us samples at grocery stores. Oh if anythng strange comes up on my posts, when I walk away from the laptop BJ walks across it and types lol. |

| Yep, you will definitely get lots of opinions. To each their own, I really think almost anything would be better than Beneful, lol, but I am no professional. Purina offers better products, though I'm not a huge fan of Purina in general, but yeah they have a few formulas that are better than their typical "Dog Chow" and "Beneful" foods. I only take what these review sites say with a grain of salt, because hey, if a dog is doing well on a two star food, then it's obviously not two star for your dog. But I do think it's a good basic source of information for a somewhat newbie to dog nutrition, just a place to view all the different brands, read comments from users, etc. Keep in mind that just because a food is 5 star does not mean it's the greatest, either, because the site doesn't take into account company ethics and production, and all that. But I do believe it to be pretty spot on with Beneful. Beneful Dry Dog Food | Review and Rating

| Thank you for the info. She gained 4 ounces in 29 days. Only weighed 1 lb 5 oz. when we got her, now l lb. ounces. She loves the Beneful and even the vet said since she is so small it may be better to change her food when she is a a little larger and older. She may not eat something else. She also eats Ceasar Puppy Food lol. He said if it aint broke don't fix it. I lost my husband and my yorkied all since Oct.25th, I don't know what I would do if I lose her. She is all I have. My son lives out of town and travels on job, my grandchildren are out of state, no other family. No brothers or sisters, small family. I am not doing well, my husband and Dee Dee were my life. I have lost 15 lbs. and am small anyway. Thanks for reply. Last edited by BJBEVSBABY3; 01-21-2012 at 09:54 PM. Reason: forgot |

| Read on line that Iams had recalls on some of their food. Sure makes you feel good. |

| I would suggest soft bite sized treats and only sparingly. Unless you don't mind a finicky eater on your hands 2 YT! |
