| Treats Please! Hi, I'm desperately searching for some healthy treats for our dogs. The two issues are that our Brussels (Sprout) doesn't do well with any sort of grains. The other issue is that they need to be something both him and Bella can have. She's a puppy (4 mos) and he's technically a senior (will be 12 years old this year). They cannot have separate treats, as we have tried that and they both chuck hissy fits at the fact that one is getting something the other one is not (even if we feed them their treats at the same time). They need to be something that is not rich...and very light, because I'm teaching Bella commands and tricks, and I fully believe in the treat method. I did it with our Brussels and he did awesome (but no longer requires treats every time, just sometimes). Bella weighs 2.6 lbs...I don't need to be stuffing her tiny tummy full of cement mix, if you know what I mean..so something light and tiny. Recipes are MORE than welcome also. I've found a lot of recipes online, but most of them have some sort of flour, which Sprout cannot have and I'm not keen on letting Bella have it either. Thanks so much! |

| I use Gerber's Graduates Puffs and plain Cheerios for training mine... but for super serious training, I cut up some chicken in tiny pieces and keep it in the freezer, and just pull out what I need when I need it and let it defrost. Some folks use green beans too, or bits of apple.

| My two love green beans and tiny bits of apple. Jada is allergic to grain and chicken so we just do natural treats. I have used the gerber yogurt drops too and they love them.

| I like Fruitables. My dogs like the pumpkin pecan flavor the best. They are low calorie treats.

| Rosie loves green beans and apples too. I also ordered the pup tarts from Rachel. These are just dehydrated fruits and veggies. Even with Rosie's IBS there has been no problems.

| Wow...lots of good recommendations! Thanks so much! On the green beans and apples...do you cut them up? Frozen, fresh, or canned (beans)? Apples with the peel or without? lol We have cheerios here..but they are the honeynut kind..not regular. Should we get regular? Fruitables I know nothing about but I will look into those as well as the Gerber puffs...and the yogurt drops. I hope our grocery store carries them. lol Thank you VERY much! |

| Oh my goodness...thank you everyone for all the great ideas. My Lacey baby was recently a victim of the chicken jerky fuss and became VERY swollen and sick. I managed to finally make her forget about them and she is now eating very healthy again and will even get the food out of her bowl on her own with Colby. She is back to normal and doing great now, so I am always looking for healthy snacks to replace those #%^$#@ jerky snacks that made my baby so sick. |

1. Preheat oven to 200°F. 2. Slice the chicken into thin strips. You should end up with about 7 or 8 slices. 3. Place chicken slices on a baking sheet and bake for 2 to 2 1/2 hours to remove moisture (cooking time will depend on thickness of chicken and whether chicken is refrigerated or warm from oven. I baked raw chicken until no longer pink then allowed it to cool enough to be handled before slicing into strips). 4. Allow to cool. Read more: Chicken Jerky For Dogs Recipe - Food.com - 288344

| My dad recently pulled his dehydrator back out and you can dehydrate any fruit and veggies really (that are good for dogs) we have tried coconut, chicken and sweet potato. Also I was picking up treat today for Callie and I saw that blue buffalo wilderness has a few different types or grain free treats you might could look at.

| treats The Gerber puffs sound good. I used to make Latte oatmeal peanut butter cookies (4 ingredients-oatmeal, peanut butter, nonfat milk and baking powder) but since we're limiting her diet for allergies, the vet said to stay away from the oatmeal for now. She LOVED Honey-nut Cheerios. I will look at the Gerber puffs and see what she likes. I thought that oatmeal was not an allergen? Any thoughts on that? |
