| New 9 Week Old Yorkie...HELP! I just brought home our sweet new teacup yorkie puppy two days ago. He really likes to cuddle...but thats about it. Im having a hard time getting him to eat right. The woman I purchased him from sent home a puppy package with some of his food. He refuses to eat it. I have softened it with water, tried mixing it with chicken and rice baby food. So, finally I had to break down and give him wet purnia puppy food. He seemed to enjoy it the first time, but now he only licks it a little. Ive resorted to feeding him with a baby spoon. Ive been giving him some formula every few hours to keep his blood sugar elevated as I do not want him going into hypoglycemia. He will follow me and my husband around, but thats about it. Has had all his shots, pees and poops. Will not play, though. Sleeps mostly. Is all of this stuff normal? PLEASE HELP! Im really worried about my puppy! |

| Every puppy should have a wellness exam with your local vet within 48 hours. See if you can get in for an appointment tomorrow. Plus you need to schedule completion of puppy shots anyway. If he is not lethargic, and his gums are pink and moist, I wouldn't be too concerned yet (still get into the vet for the wellness exam). Some pups take a few days or even a week to adjust to their new homes and start eating. Since he is under 12 weeks old (the ideal age to bring them home), be careful not to over-handle him. Pups need rest too. Feed the same food that breeder was feeding him. Do not change brands for at least a few weeks. Changing often leads to tummy and digestive upsets. Keep an eye on him. Don't expect him to be playing fetch immediately. I held Max a lot his first 3-4 days home with me.

| If he's tiny, he'll only eat about 1-2 teaspoons of food at one time. If you're giving him formula every two hours, it'a not enough time in between for him to get hungry.

| I know that it is scary when your baby isnt acting like you think he/she should. When my baby came home she was very picky, not wanting to eat. She was very well socialized and a bit older, but I think that she really missed her sister, mommy and daddy. I spent the first 3 or 4 days making sure that she at something at least 3 times a day and I would let her lay in my lap and I talked alot to her. I made sure that my house stayed relatively quiet and any play time lasted only 3 or 4 min at a time. She finally did begin to perk up after about day 4,but it was several more weeks before she would eat what I would call a normal amount for a puppy. She will be 1yr old in 2 days and rules the house now. Good luck with your new baby! |

| Thank you, everyone for your replies. Ive tried feeding him the same food the breeder fed him, but he WILL NOT eat it. I almost have to force feed him the wet puppy food with a baby spoon. Im only doing the formula to make sure he gets the vitamins, nutrients, and sugar he needs so he will not go into hypoglycemia. And he will only drink water whenever I give it to him with a syringe. Im taking him to the vet in the morning. I have to really work with him to wake him up for feedings. But when he wakes up he follows me around, and will run a little. Im really nervous . |

| Hey, guys. Im very sad to say that our baby Spanky passed away this morning. Ive been waking up every two hours to check on him, and feed if he needs it. The last time I got up he was not breathing. I tried wrapping him in a warm towel, rubbing him, putting ice on his tongue. I even did cpr. He did not make it. |

| Oh no! I'm so sorry. RIP little Spanky. You may need to take him to the vet for a necropsy to determine cause of death.
