| Cleaning eyes? Hello there! This is my first post on this website. My husband and I just got our 5-month old Yorkie, Hoosier, a week ago Sunday. He is so adorable and we are having the best time with him! I'm trying to do everything right and I have a question... My parents have a Silkie and my mom was telling me I should (and I want to) clean the sleep from his face by his eyes and nose...sometimes he will sit still for me, and I get most of the crusty part of with either my fingernail or a comb. I don't want hurt him; although, he doesn't really seem to mind. Is there any way (easily) - aside from giving him a bath that I can get rid of the stains left behind? Thanks in advance! Heather |

| I use 1/2 a cotton ball (100% cotton) saturated with warm water. I'll hold it on the crunchies a few seconds at a time until they're on the cotton ball. Rinse and repeat. I agree with the flea comb. Nothing gets out the excess better. His attitude is improving for this daily routine as long as he gets praise and 'chicken' (plain boiled chicken bits) afterwards. |

| I like the cotton pads for makeup better than the balls. I also cut the hairs right there really short. Be carefull with their eyes. Mine sit very still and are used to me doing everything to them. You can also use Hydrogen peroxide on a q-tip. But don't let it get in their eyes, and rinse well. |

| Every morning after Harleys potty break I'll have him sit on my lap (note for about 15 seconds tops bc he's as hyper as a 4th of july firework when he wakes up) and I'll just carefully scrape away any "sleepy stuff" from his eyes. I've never had any problems with tear staining and I think that's due to the fact that I clean them every day and his food. Sometimes certain foods can cause tear stains.

| welcome to YT hprush. on your new baby. I use a cotton ball dampened with warm water and then a flea comb. They love having this done . I think it is the warm and soft feel. I also rave about how good they are being(makes them feel special). It is almost like a treat for them. Post some pics of Hoosier when you get a chance. can't get enough of those pretty faces.

| I have a white bichon and his eyes are almost impossible to keep clean. I took him to the vet for something different and the vet took out a flea comb and cleaned under his eyes in just a few seconds. I noticed a previous poster mentioned this - and, believe me, it works. My vet didn't use any water or anything, she just combed through the hair beneath his eyes and he didn't make a fuss or anything - it was done before he knew what was happening. What she had was a little "crescent-shaped flea comb," a size that would fit in the palm of your hand. Good luck! Carol Jean |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Someone shared this on a site and we are using it with GREAT results - It's called Eye Envy and if anyone wants to see tear stains GONE - this stuff works GREAT - within days the stains faded - you don't put it IN their eyes - you just gently rub it under their eyes and it really works - |

| an eyebrow/eyelash brush works really well too....you can buy them at the drug store in the make up dept. I read a post on here a while back that any dog food with red beet pulp in it can cause their eyes to have tear stains worse. Bitsy stills cleans Bailey and Charlie's face everyday so I don't have to clean the pups.

| Since the corners of the eye is a sensitive area, I like to use a soft bristled tootbrush while in the bath to clean the area, then I use another one when I'm grooming to brush the hair eye away from the eye. It works really well. |

Pixie is starting to get some stains. I clean her eyes every night, but it's seems to have gotten worse since I got her. I think her adult teeth are starting to come in, and I've heard that can cause excessive tearing/staining. Anybody know if that's true or not? Does that stop after all the teeth have come in? | |
