My yorkie is just four months old and she seems to be skinny for a puppy. she has absolutly no baby fat. I don't think she's underweight because her bones are not promenent; she's just skinny. I leave food for her at all times, and she eats well. I'm just concerned it might be internal.

How much does she weigh? A lot of Yorkies are just very long, or they just don't have very much baby fat on them.

I dont know if its uncommon or not. But if hes eating, I wouldnt worry about it at all! MuffinsMom

The last time I weighed her was three weeks ago, she was 2.5lbs and she doesn't seem to that much or at all.

my yorkie is also four months old. he is skinny also. he has been a picky eater up until a couple of weeks ago. Then he got very, very sick over Thanksgiving so I am sure he lost weight. he weighed 2.7 (I think) at the vet Friday. I really can't remember because I have been so upset. he is not long nor long legged. he is short and his body is short but I swear i don't think he is two inches across his back. Maybe this is normal. I have heard they fill out as they get older. I can feel my baby's little ribs and backbone. Since he got well on Saturday, he has eaten like a little yorkie pig.

My yorkie is a little long legged, which just happend a month or so ago...We used to think she was quite stubby

. Perhaps it may be her body type, but we can feel her backbone. Maybe it is just part of a growth spurt?

Also, sorry to hear about your puppy being sick. I'm glad that he is feeling better.

My little Rowdy is skinny too. He was sick in Sept and lost some weight and I worried a lot about him. I too, can feel his backbone and ribs. I free feed him and he does eat, but probably not a lot. I also feed him toddler (human) chicken sticks once or twice a day. And I just made him some satin balls today. I'll include the recipie, but some here say it is too fatty for them - I don't know, if you google satin balls, it seems to be OK. Anyway, I make it with 10% fat hamburger and don't put in the extra oil. He loves it and will usually eat them when he might not be eating anything else. It does put weight on him - I don't give them to him all the time, just when I think he needs some weight.

This recipie makes A LOT - tonight I cut it by 1/4 and made a very small amount.

Satin Balls Half Recipe -- recommended amount to mix up

5 lbs cheap hamburger (for high fat %)
1/2 large box Total cereal (about 6 cups cereal)
1/2 large box uncooked oatmeal (about 7.5 cups oats)
5 raw eggs
1/2 of 15oz jar wheat germ (about 2 cups)
5 packages Knox unflavored gelatin
5/8 cup vegetable oil (this is pretty close to 2/3 cup)
5/8 cup unsulphered molasses
pinch of salt

Take all dry ingredients and place in a bowl. Crunch up the total cereal, and then pour all the other dry ingredients over it. In a another large bowl put the hamburger meat and the wet ingredients. Mix each bowl well, then mix together. Mix just like you would a meatloaf. Roll into small balls. The original recipie says that the meat balls are supposed to be fed raw – but I cook mine – about 5-7 minutes (depending on the size of the ball I make) in a 350 oven. Then I put the balls in a freezer bag and store them flat in the freezer (meaning that I only put a few balls into each bag so that the balls lie flat and don’t stick together so that I can take one or two out at a time as I need them). I take out a bag or just some balls when I need them and heat a few seconds in the microwave.

Cali is 5 1/2 months old and just turned 3 lbs. She is very fine boned and getting longer and taller but still real skinny. I think it's just there body types. As long as they are eating and playing they probably are getting enough food. I recently bought a postal scale for 30.00 and I weigh her every week. She has been gaining between 2-3 ozs a week. Maybe you can get a cheap scale for peace of mind.

ah, now I feel like I've got a fat baby!!! He's a little over five months and weighs 4.0 lbs. I too, leave food out all the time, and he only gets a treat once a day.
