| What do you feed your yorkie? I went to a pet boutique today and they gave me free samples of dog food. They gave me Evo and California Natural. I fed Delilah some of the Evo Herring & Salmon Formula and she thinks it's a treat. I'm thinking about switching over to it slowly by putting Evo, but I'm not sure. Right now, I'm feeding her Innova. Is that a good food? I always heard that the first 3 items on the Ingredients should be meat. I'm not sure though. What do you feed your yorkie?

| EVO is probably one of the richest foods out on the market. I think it's a fantastic food but some dogs cannot tolerate it. Very high in protein and fat. Innova & EVO (Natura Foods) was bought out by Proctor & Gamble just as an FYI. I don't have an issue with it. A lot of people were worried about food changing for the worse, etc, but thus far, no formulas have been changed and I haven't seen many complaints or anything. I think Innova has some great choices, as does their California Naturals line. I was considering putting Innova into the rotation possibly. I am feeding Natural Balance and Fromm right now. I like to rotate food every other bag. I am pretty satisfied with Fromm though so far (on our first bag) and may not go back to NB, but switch around between Fromm flavors. I really respect the company, my dog really loves the food and does well on it.

| It all depends on your Yorkie. I've been on the hamster wheel for awhile now with Gizmo and eating. What may work for my dog, may not work for your dog. I liked Brits advice regarding dog food. Also, whatever you chose (and I'm a big offender of this) stick with it! Transition will take some time and it will also take a little bit for your baby to get used to it! Good luck!

| My Yorkie eats an rx diet and my other pup is being transitioned from EN to SD Sensitive Stomach. If I had my way and they could eat whatever I decided on, they would eat SD Ideal Balance or Nature's Best. ...or possibly an RC small breed formula, Purina One Beyond, etc. If I were choosing between Innova and Evo, it would be without a doubt Innova. IMO, Evo is not one of the better foods out there. Be careful with any canned Innova or Evo foods. They all tend to be way too high in fat.

| The first bag I got and still have for my 4 month old is a bag of the puppy eukenuba for small dogs. I'm not a fan of eukenuba at all, never really have been. I've never used this brand for any of my puppies or dogs but it came with him. He doesn't seem to really like it. So yesterday and today my girlfriend wet it down and I noticed his stool was soft yesterday and he was passing gas a lot. Today I brought him for a long ride after he ate and he really pooped a lot in the car and threw up I asked my GF not to wet it down, I think he is digesting it too fast or something. However, I am going to pick up a bag of natural balance very soon to switch him over slowly to that and have him on that for a while. I want to try Fromm as well. Will see

| ZoE has been on Royal Canin from the get go. We started with RC Mini baby dog, then RC Yorkshire Terrier Puppy, and now she's on RC YT adult. She's has done really well on it, is a completely healthy pup and has no issues.

| I might try Fromm or learn how to make my food. I'm just trying to find a different food for Delilah because she has basically stopped eating Innova. She will wait and wait until she is starving to even touch it. I put the sample of Evo in her bowl and she gobbled it up. I think she just needs a change in taste... and I'm planning on doing it gradually. I don't want her to get sick or anything. Oh, and don't worry about my baby eating canned food. She won't touch the stuff. Thanks a lot everyone.

| Callie was on Wellness core but the pieces seemed way to hard so I got a few samples of food and she really seems to like the Orjien so that is what she is eating now.

| We're an Orijen family here. Cody still won't take dry food plain, but that's not an Orijen problem, just an issue in general. So we always put just a smidge of wet food on there to make it more appetizing for him. He seems to do okay with it though. And we like Orijen in general (cats do amazing on the kitty version) so we're a happy house. |

| I'm using Sold Gold Just a Wee Bit right now. I change every 6 months or so. I don't like to change often because I have sensitive stomachs here. They tend toward loose stools if anything is different. Still, I don't like to leave them on the same food forever, just in case they were missing something. I like no-grain formulas (Solid Gold does contain grain though) IF they are not too high in protein. I do not like to feed any food that is over 32% protein. It can lead to pancreatitis over time and sometimes with just a feeding or two!! Larger dogs may be able to tolerate it better than yorkie-sized yorkies. No offense to any dog or person here but when you are comparing diets, I think it is more important to compare with dogs more the same size as yours. We have people with dogs from 1 pound to 25 pounds here -- obviously NOT the same situation! The smaller dogs do have a higher history of pancreatiits problems. Merricks Before Grain is an excellent choice! If i can find it locally, I will switch to it next. I am trying to get our Hardware store where I buy my Solid Gold to stock it since they do stock other Merrick's products. I think it is one of the best choices around. Most of the no-grain products have too high a protein percentage for me to feel comfortable with. As a human with chronic pancreatitis, I am more conscious of it and never want my pups to feel what I feel with this horrible condition!

Also, feeding a high protein food alone can NOT cause pancreatitis -- at least it has not been proven in dogs. But there is a lot of unknown, in general, about what causes pancreatitis, but typically speaking it's high fatty foods (hence why vets see large cases of them around the holidays). Pancreatitis can also flare up in a Yorkie only being fed low protein, low fat kibble. Also, German Shepherds are another breed OFTEN affected with pancreatitis (and upset stomach) so it's not simply a "small dog-big dog" thing. I don't know a ton about pancreatitis, as I only dealt with a supposed case of it with Jackson once, but I've had a few discussions with my vets (two of them) now and both have informed me that a high protein food alone does not cause pancreatitis. From everything I've read, it seems that's also the case. Maybe it's different in humans. Just wanted to put that out there in case someone reads it while looking for pancreatitis information or food, etc.
