| Only eating once a day.. by choice.... So Harley has a new habit that's annoying me.... Since he's been sick and recovered he only wants to eat roughly around 6pm-10pm daily. His poops are good for once finally, and he is eating, just he seems to really chow down at that time, and not want to each much during the other 20 hours of the day. I've been tracking his eating habits like a hawk, I "free feed" him in the sense that he never has no access to food, but I put it down in 1/8 cup amounts, so that I know how much he's eaten and when. I was thinking of trying to give him smaller amounts more often to see if that encourages him to eat more. He lost about .5lb when he was sick and I really want him to gain that back. He's on Go - salmon and loves it when he wants to eat. He's getting between 1/8-1/4 cup per day in his system and nothing else (we suspect allergies so only kibble for 2 months). He is about 3.5lb and should be closer to almost 4. What do you guys think? The vet has been really pushing me to switch to RC, but I don't like it, and the formula she wants has too much crap in it, considering we want to eliminate things that may be making him sick. I just worry he's not eating enough per day. But it seems to be working. Maybe he was just eating the wrong food before... he was on NOW which is grain free, and he ate 1/2 cup + treats + dental chew per day but pooped a lot more. Here's hoping I can get him to stay balanced for a week, and see if he gains weight. We haven't had a fully healthy week (med free) since August 15th.

| Maybe I'm worrying for nothing Go Natural Salmon and Oatmeal Dog Food this is the food he's on, I guess 1/4 cup per day is what they recommend. (assuming I did my math right). Maybe I'm just used to giving him too much of a food he can't digest, and now that this food is being digested properly he's not needing as much.

| My Chihuahua does it. She's been doing it since she was a pup. We just let her eat as she pleases. No sense in forcing her as she is maintaining her current (healthy) weight. |

YT 1000 Club Member | Hi, I don't think you have to worry. Let your baby dictate when and how much he eats. Romeo is a whopping 15-16 lbs and eats sparingly throughout the day. He does not have set feeding times; because I work from home it's easy on both of us to "feed" when he feels hungry (will let me know he's hungry by sitting where he eats and barking).

| Ziva eats Taste of the Wild- Pacific Stream, never more than 1/3 c per day (she is 7 lbs) usually about 5pm (I offer it in the am and she might eat a couple kibble ) sometimes she will eat 1tsp fresh cooked chicken and a few green beans at dinner but then eats less kibble) If there is any of the 1/3 c left I offer it at 8pm. Treats are minimal, a different brand/flavor sample of grain free kibble. I feed my Wheaten Terrier similarly and she is no longer 'sick" all the time. The new puppy is thriving but eats 3-4x a day! I think the probiotics in this food are great! |

| Lola gets one bowl per day and eats as she chooses throughout the day. the bowl comes up at 7pm and usually its never empty. She gets a good handful of Ultra kibble and a small little dose of Health Extension kibble. She poops like 2-3 times a day so i assume she is fine lol, he knows teh food is there so dont fret. sounds like he eats when he wants and does ok |

| Yeah I think I'm freaking out cause he's been sick. I guess I just wake up every morning and am scared to see diarrhoea or something, but so far so good. I really want him to get better. He seems happy, I also don't want to exercise him hard until he starts getting more weight on. (I put him on house rest since he's been sick, so no outside or public exposure since September, we play inside for exercise). He's an agility dog, so I want to get him back to classes, but of course don't want to expose him to other dogs until his immune system is working better. If he keeps consistent for another week, I'll be happy. Oh... also anyone not getting email messages as usual? I never got a notification that this had replies... But I haven't changed my settings?
