Senior Yorkie Talker | Amara!!!! Amara's skin is peeling really bad around her ears. There are black particles of some kind on that area also. I'm really worried. I don't know if it is hot spots or sun burn or what? Please help me. She is also scratching at her ears. And they are very red and irritated. I'm extremely worried. It could progress to something worse. |

| I would have the vet take a look as soon as possible to rule out mites or fleas. Best case scenario: Teddy recently had some itchies and minor flaking behind the ears. The skin pores were also tiny black speckles. Turned out that I was not rinsing adequately behind his ears. Scrubbing, rinsing thoroughly, and applying a mild conditioner solved the problem.

| You are welcome. Mites will probably look like black speckles inside the ear, or the edges, or the base of the back of the ear. Fleas leave "flea dirt" that looks like black speckles. If it were fleas, she would probably have them everywhere. Is she is really scratching, crying, or shaking her head, she needs to see the vet immediately (asap). These things can mean mites or an ear infection.

| Definitely get your girl to the vet as soon as possible. If she's scratching she's probably miserable...let the vet diagnose and treat what is needed. Will check back later to see how she's doing. Sending good thoughts for a quick recovery of your little one.

| Did you end up taking her to the vet? What did he say? Sometimes if it's some sort of allergy they can give a steroid shot and that helps, but still you need to find out the source of the problem.
