Default Vaccination

How many times did you vaccinated your Yorkies? My Gigo was vaccinated 2 times (at age 8 and 12 weeks). Breeder said to me that this is enought and that he next vaccination can be over a year.

But my vet said that they usually vaccinate 3 times.

From what I read here, your vet is correct...DId your breeder give you a schedule to take to your Vet. Your vet should know what is needed from that schedule and when.

What is schedule? If this is the vaccation document than the anser is yes.
I am going now to vet to see what he will say about that.

Thanks

A schedule is a set time something ie meds, vaccinations were administered and when they should be given again.. You are correct... You are welcome

I agree with your breeder. Our current vets (except the homeopathic vets) ten to way over vaccinate our pets leading to vaccinosis and all sorts of maladies and conditions as side effects to too many vaccines.

There is a lot written on the controversy and you can read up on the internet. It is very omportant as a pet owner that you educate yourself on this issue rather than just going by what your vet says, because the vets ae sometimes just following a "protocol" that may not be right for your dog.

You also want to avoid combination vaccines or giving multiple vaccines on the same day. PM me if you want links to read up on this issue.

Here is a link to a sampling of vets and what they have to say about over vaccination and the health of our pets.http://www.healthy.net/scr/article.asp?ID=485

I do not think it is wise for someone who isn't a breeder, nor a vet to advise someone not to vaccinate their dog. It is very irresponsible, and if something happens to their dog it would be your fault for advising them to take up such behavior. I told her to listen to her vet, and take the schedule she got from her breeder to her Vet. Nothing that might harm the dog. I think your intentions are nice.

And will it then conversely be "your fault" if her dog develops vaccinosis or has a bad reaction to the vaccines?

Your argument and calling me irresponsible for voicing my opinion and advising her to educate herself makes no logical sense. My opinions are backed by sound logic and sources to back me up. They are mine just as yours are yours, and I am no more irresponsible than you are.

I clearly have advised her that the best thing is to do the research and make the decision that is best for her and your dog. The members on here are smart enough to take the advice and opinions they get on here and make their own decisions after reviewing all the information.

All I need to be is a dog owner and someone who has experience and knowledge in this area. The fact that I am not a breder is irrelevant to this issue.

I must be on turkey overload, because I didn't understand anything you typed. I do know I did tell her to take her schedule to HER VET... Enjoy the rest of Your Holiday, Kim.

I am sorry if it was hard to understand but basically I was taking exception to you calling me irresponsible even though I never advised anyone not to vaccinate their pets. I merely told her to research the issue and gave her some quotes from some vets who feel that over vaccination is harmful.

I thought I would actually post one of the ten here to whet the appetites of the readers so that they may be enticed to read further:

Charles E Loops, DVM, Pittsboro, USA said: "The first thing that must change with routine vaccinations is the myth that vaccines are not harmful. Veterinarians and animal guardians have to come to realise that they are not protecting animals from disease by annual vaccinations, but in fact, are destroying the health and immune systems of these same animals they love and care for".

For some, ignorance is bliss.

I am not asking for everyone to agree with me, but I can get just a few yorkie lovers on here to read up on this issue then I have accomplished a good thing and there wil be less babies unnecessarily over-vaccinated because of some outdated "schedule" or protocol that is not tailored to the particular dog and his/her well being as it should be. Every dog is different so every vaccination schedule should be different.

I have noticed all sorts of varied advise regarding vaccinating our dogs.

Definitely - follow your vet's advise. Get whatever vaccinations he thinks are necessary and get them when you should.

Dog vaccinations are a pretty standard form of health care for dogs. Most vets will adhere to these standards and will agree with one another regarding them.

Trust your vet - not your friends or anyone else for that matter. And, don't neglect getting your dog the vaccinations that he should have

Carol Jean

When I was a child (100 years ago) - I had a puppy that died with distemper and a dog with rabies that had to be put to sleep. Today, both of these can be avoided.

I dont know I have some reservations about the vaccinations but continue to get them because that is what my vet advises. My jewels has reactions to the vaccinations but my vet says the benefits of the vaccinations outweigh any reactions. She is small at 5 lbs and I dont know if that is why she has reactions and Chachi doesnt. I wish I had a homepathic vet near me but I dont.
